Media Day in KC today: Wilson, Harris, McCullar, Self.

These will not be one of my favorite jerseys.

Self yesterday:

Harris, Wilson, and McCullar are locks to start.

Dick not guaranteed but would be hard not to have out there.

5th spot up for grabs.

KJ will play some 5 when switching all 5 spots but is too little for the position.

given his stroke, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Dick paired with DH a ton

These quotes on Dick are also drool-worthy:

“Gradey Dick has been everything we thought he would be thus far. You know, he’s got a high release as 6-foot-8. he can get a shot off and certainly can really shoot the basketball,” Self said Wednesday at Big 12 Media Days in Kansas City, Missouri. “Right now I’d say Gradey probably has the biggest chance to have a huge impact early.”

If he goes 0-10 to start a game, i'm not sure he'll be in much for the rest of that particular game.

There's no way anyone doubted that prediction (unless illy did, which doesn't count). Pretty easy lineup to predict, as stated.


I think it's interesting that Bill says Zuby has a shot at minutes. I still doubt it, but interesting.

I don't think it's revelatory/prophetic that the only three players who started in the B12 last season would be locked into starting spots this season considering the pieces we lost.

But zuby has tools and a motor. During the clips from late night I heard them compare him to jamari.

Except zuby is more like 6'9 not 6'6

I wouldn't be shocked to see Zuby get minutes. Big enough to defend the post, but might be quick enough to enable us to switch all 5. Of course, that requires him being able to do both of those consistently well, which probably wouldn't happen early on.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Zuby get minutes. Big enough to defend the post, but might be quick enough to enable us to switch all 5. Of course, that requires him being able to do both of those consistently well, which probably wouldn't happen early on.

I should have clarified: "a shot at STARTER minutes"

Seems like Self isn't particularly confident about our big man situation. Nobody can score inside. Someone who can get low position and score with some kind of post move.

Starting to wonder if I'm most comfortable with playing KJ and just play 5-out. Which, should probably just be a secondary set piece at a program like KU.

We'll be fine come 2nd semester, though.

no love for Clemence

i thought he showed some surprising toughness in the paint during his minutes last year

i know he’s a “stretch the floor” kind of guy, but you don’t grow up being that big and not develop some post skills

The interviews with Self lately he doesn't even mention Clemence when talking about the bigs unless I missed it. Probably shouldn't take his low minutes at Late Night to mean anything, should I?

He said yesterday that KJ, Clemence, Udeh and Zuby were all neck and neck for the 5th position, but that he told them they can't all each play 10 minutes/night. He gave praise to each, but noted that KJ was too little to play the 5. He also mentioned Cam in the same breath as Zach, without realizing his math is wrong if there are 5 guys in the mix. Wants to play one guy 25 and another 15.

My post was not meant to not give love for ZC or his toughness, but he's clearly a pick-and-pop guy (as self mentioned), and I'm not all that sure he's developed any reliable post moves growing up in today's game. I'd like for him and Udeh to emerge as I think they're the most talented of the bunch.
