But also sounds very very similar to the sort of rhetoric Dems floated this time four years ago.

I do think actually doing something toward the scotus issue could be a good move for Biden tho - especially in the wake of the recent “executive can do whatever he wants” sorta ruling. Just make it strategically clever, and substantive.

Once again, though, no amount of cleverness can overcome R intransigence. Not unless the Ds are willing to do something decidedly unclever, which would be nuking the filibuster.

But the Ds tend to be gullible cowards who think that acting in good faith (by preserving the filibuster) will be met with good faith (by the Rs honoring the filibuster if/when the Rs control the Senate).

Of course it's as plain as the sky is blue that the Rs will bulldoze right over any nicety.

In 2021 Biden was still suffering from the deluded afterglow of his 70 years in the senate working out "bipartisan" deals with Republicans, before they became a cult.

Not to mention, it wouldn't have seemed nearly as urgent then prior to the revelations about Clarence and Samuel were revealed by ProPublica, the immunity ruling, and the gutting of the Chevron decision. Which means good luck getting Manchin and Sinema to go along with their "fellow Democrats", imo, an impossible hill to climb.

I think there is also value in making the Republicans own what will be yet another unpopular position. Make them wear those, every single time.

Which reminds me how disappointed I am much of the time with Senate Majority Leader Schumer, who so rarely makes Republicans wear and own their obstruction, and "issues".

Schumer is a comity show sometimes.
