I think you have mentioned in the past that your or your family has experience in the sport. Something I don't know but could easily find out: do bad scores from a team member drag down the rest of the team's score?

If so, an even easier decision to sit it out.

Not sure if i give a shit or not.

JT Xander and Morikawa could go 1 2 3 if they all play well. That'd be cool.

PReed is going to "want" it more than any Americans is my guess because he's got a whole lot of "fuck you" in his blood.

Hideki has incredible pressure on him. I am a sucker for a good story and him winning in JAPAN would be so cool to witness. He's who i am cheering for to win.

Cam Smith has some insane hair (Australia) and he's a cool dude.

For the draftkings players....i have a lineup for each of the favorites. But will be heavy on Hideki. Henrik Norlander is my low priced target. And then any low priced Euro Tour or PGA player. Mixing it up and not too committed to any guys (won't have anyone in over 35ish% of my lineups, probably do 15 lineups or so).

Have a weird feeling about Paul Casey. Never won a major. Maybe this will be his career highlight? Iirc Justin Rose won it last time. Maybe England can retain the gold again?
You guys sure seem excited for Olympic Golf! πŸ˜‰

Yes. Bad scores count.

But let's also be realistic. They were trailing when she withdrew from competition and the only way they were going to catch Russia was with her routines with very high possible total scores.

No criticism from me (today). But she wasn't giving her team a better chance to win gold by withdrawing. She was giving someone else a chance to compete though.... and maybe (strong maybe) giving them a better chance not to fall out of the top 3....although even a bad bars from her would have kept them in the top 3 most likely and probably still silver.

Yeah, I hadn't gotten that far into the weeds on it. In the end, doesn't matter. Her competition and only she knows her limits. Doesn't owe the message board jerkoffs anything and I have no reason to believe she didn't handle things internally with her team.

No doubt.

And at least me personally, i didn't/don't want to seem unfair in criticism of her yesterday. I don't think it was a "fake mental health" thing. I was more or less speculating about the cause of what triggered the mental health issue. Her not partaking in the individual all around is further proof she wasn't just quitting because she did poorly. She is clearly having some issues.

Also, i chuckle in interviews when they say "mentals". Like "mentals weren't there". Almost as funny as when Tiger Woods said his "glutes weren't firing".

Biles withdraws from individual competitions.

Wish her the best, I hope she can look back on this one day and be at peace. It's an opportunity few get to have...

Next question would be: Does she retire?

From my perspective, it would be sort of selfish not to. It would be selfish to take up the next generation's oxygen.

"Their lives" is overly dramatic as the South Korean military isn't exactly in harm's way anywhere. "For their livelihood" would be more accurate. They are playing to avoid doing the mandatory 18 months of military service that would otherwise interrupt their desired professional golf careers.
Yeah, I suppose the wording could have been better, lol. I was just thinking that most people consider their job's their life as it gives them the ability to have a comfortable one. I didn't mean if they didn't medal they would be executed. My bad.

Coming from the guy who gives Embiid heat for sitting out the rest of the 14 season when he was cleared to play.

Why should someone who is still the best at what they do have to retire for others to have a chance? Would it be selfish if guys like Novak Djokavic, Dustin Johnson, Steph Curry, even 26 yr old Giannis decided to not retire? They've had their time on top, better step aside for the next generation.

Ice skating in my house but we pay attention to Gymnastics as well.

In the team competition, each country gets 2 athletes per apparatus (beam, floor, uneven bar & vault). Most combined points on the 8 total performances wins. If Biles tanks the ones she is doing, the team has little chance to medal. Because she stepped aside, one of the other US teammates took her rotations. They stepped up and earned a silver medal.

There is also an individual all around after the team portion, where 2 US athletes (based on scoring in the earlier qualifying rounds) compete on their own for the overall gold and the highest three scores on each individual apparatus also win medals. Since Biles also withdrew from the individual portion, her teammate gets to take her place.

I just meant that service in the South Korean military isn't very risky to their lives is all. I used to train with some athletes from South Korea and we discussed this very issue. Most young males there saw the required service as a huge pain in the butt that delayed or derailed their athletic and professional interests. Some were gung ho about it but usually do to family pressure to be so. Glad I wasn't born there.

She can retire whenever she wants. The next generation would likely rather beat her to be the next face of the sport.

Or crappy AC ducts in my basement. Our power was out for 6 days and it was still a little chilly down there. Might as well throw a sheet down.
