The fact of the matter is that we live in a world that is full of profoundly stupid people who do profoundly stupid things. Moreover, Trump's "Chinese virus" wasn't something whimsical created in a vacuum. For a variety of reasons -- ALL of which are purely (geo)political -- the CCP has waged an aggressive PR campaign, in the wake of the COVID spread. The masks to the Netherlands, the tests to Spain, the ventilators to Italy, and the CCP officials spreading conspiracy theories on social media are all aspects of this campaign. And the "Chinese virus" is but one tiny aspect of the response, one which crudely but effectively reminds the world that the CCP is responsible for hiding the virus, lying about it, and permitting its spread globally.
