The bad part is that I have about four or five groups, each of them wanting to have a weekly virtual happy hour. I have to substitute seltzer for G&T for some of them :)
I don't understand these Zoom Happy Hours. My wife's company has them on Fridays, and 27 people on them. She doesn't really like her co-workers, at least socially, and just sits there for an hour drinking a beer.

My company tried to get us to do that, and I shut it down real quick.
It works better if you actually enjoy the other people, I'd guess.

My wife has been meeting for weekly "quarantinis" as they call them on Fridays with a few friends via Zoom meetings. They have a blast and will keep doing it as possible after this is over from the sounds of it.

70 students from UT chartered a plane and went to Cabo for spring break. Upon their return 28 tested positive. So far 28.

What do you think the average age is of the idiots who've been going on cruises?

My guess, about Michhawk's age. about Michhawk's age.

My new favorite haiku.
Ah, the "Chinese poem."

It defeats the whole purpose if you don't like or get along with your coworkers socially and wouldn't go to a real happy hour anyway. The group that I have had the most virtual happy hours with (three so far) is one where we have monthly happy hours anyway. The Zoom ones go for about an hour and that is by design. As with our "real" happy hours there are about 35-40 people on the invite list but we've never had more than about 15 people (typically around 10), real or virtual. One of the nice things about this virtual happy hour is that we have remote employees joining in and they are rarely around unless they are visiting HQ coincinding with the event (we try to do it on the same day as an all-staff meeting/sales meeting, for example). There is another group (my coworkers from my former company) which has real difficulty meeting due to the scattered residences and work/travel schedules. We try to meet every quarter or so but we're lucky if we meet a couple of times a year. We have already met once virtually!

I agree with you that if you wouldn't hang out with some people in person you shouldn't hang out with them in a virtual setting.

I like my people quite a bit. I chat with people via Skype (Lync) causally throughout the day, checking in or just shooting the shit. But we use the system for work as well, so it's natural to do so. I don't need, at the end of the work week, to sit in front of my computer drinking a beer, trying to watch 15 people talk on top of each other.

(This will make me sound like an alcoholic, but here goes)

I'm definitely looking forward to sitting on a stool at a bar again.

I can't even take my dog to the dog park anymore...they've chained the gates up. Crazy.

There was a bar down on the water in Portland that was a little hidden from all the tourists that was re-opening with new management. It was a top 5 bar of mine here. They were supposed to re-open March 20th. I hope they can hold on.

Welp guys. Mrs. Newton is a nurse for a small community hospital and in her department (surgery) they are being furloughed. So basically jobless. Mrs Newton is now likely going to do travel nursing to a Covid hotspot and go that way as we can’t afford the unemployment as it stands now in Kansas even with the expansion.

I’d appreciate some good thoughts headed my way during this time. It’s tough going for sure. I’m hoping for the absolute best.

Hoping for the best.

I'd think there would be a need for nurses in Wichita, but no idea on that for sure.
