Vonte had a lot of 4 for 12 type of games.
Are we still stripping all context from these types of numbers? That's been a thing dumb shits have done on message boards for decades, better not stop now I guess.
Welcome back.

I tried to avoid slipping into old habits, but when moron nerds go look at box scores alone it's hard not to.

Being 3 heavy/guard heavy isn't a negative in my opinion. It got them to a final 4. Baylor is pretty 3 heavy/guard heavy and it worked out ok for them.
Baylor's defense >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>2018 Kansas defense.

We don't need to strip context.

Selfs 2018 offense was let it fly - so actually Vonte got to chuck it up a lot - and i'd argue his guards ( Malik, Svi, Vick ) were quite a bit better than Dotson's ( Ochai, Garrett, Moss ) - so you might see a way where Dotson's assists could actually be even higher. And it was a slower pace than 18. So no need to strip context at all.

But 2020 Dok, paired with the you can't stop me from going to the basket Dotson, and with the all you gotta do is play defense Garrett, was fearsome -- they had 2 of the top 5 defenders in the nation.

You might also see that Dotson made the consensus 2nd AA team - while Vonte made 1st.
So arguing that Vonte was better, but not THAT much better, actually shouldn't be that hot of a take.

I like how you don't include Garrett in the 2018 group, even though he played a lot of minutes. My favorite from that season was in the Final Four when he received a great pass for a wide open 3 and froze up.

You're also remembering Big 12 Tournament/NCAA Tournament Malik which was a different beast entirely from regular season Malik. All of which influences Devonte's numbers. He was asked to do far more than Dotson ever was, including and especially on defense.

2020 B12 press release:
Marcus Garrett ( Kansas ) was named Defense Player of the Year.

2018 B12 press release:
Big 12 All-Defensive Team -
Barry Brown, Mohamba Bamba, Sagaba Konate, Jevon Carter, Zhaire Smith

And are you arguing Ochai, Garrett, Moss > Malik, Svi, Vick 18 offensively?

Uh, I'm arguing that it's actually very close? You're the one furiously scrolling box scores to make an argument about how there's a huge gap. There isn't.

I'm not furiously scrolling box scores.
No need to!

Maybe.

He’s also from Oklahoma, and a lot more talented than your average Tulsa recruit.

But yea it kinda feels weird.

If it gives us an advantage, can we send out transfers to the Pac12 then, since that's the conference we apparently can't beat in the tournament.
