Bob Knight Jr.

Beard always seemed a little dirtbaggish to me. Never been a fan.

I've always liked him. I've thought he's always been authentic, real, relatable and more. But this definitely takes away from that.

He has a Randy Quaid on parole vibe that was hard to shake.

Is it a family member he allegedly strangled? He's divorced. Was it one of his kids?
This is/was his girlfriend....

Posted November 17...

A buddy of mine (Tech grad) and some friends were having dinner at Maudie's and noticed Beard having dinner with his family. On their way out, my buddy did the little Tech gun shootin thingy and made some innocuous comment to Beard. He proceeded to jump up from the table, get in my buddy's face and began spewing profanities in front of his family and the entire restaurant. Keep in mind, my buddy is probably the nicest guy in town.

Just some local insight into Beard...sorry to go all Gutter story time ;)

Love Beard as a coach. Like basically every other coach, I have no idea who he is off the court.

Never have someone you don't know be your hero. And, of course, we're really early into this news piece.

Most universities these days, if this isn't a bogus charge, would release him.
Texas isn't one of those universities.

Re: bogus, and Texas, and stuff

This might be a dropped charge and a PR spin away from being nothing, right?

But, while only allegations and innocent until proven guilty and blah blah blah, i also think it should be easy to not get your name in the news for a DV arrest

The angle that UT will (try and) play is that Beard got into a heated argument with his daughter's boyfriend and he was acting in self defense.

Beard's attorney, Perry Minton, told the Austin American-Statesman that Beard "is 100% innocent of these charges."

"He should never have been arrested," Minton told the paper. "The complainant wants him released immediately and all charges dismissed. It is truly inconceivable."

Incidents like this remind me how lucky we are to have had high character guys like Self and Roy as our coaches for essentially my entire life.

Funny how a person whose life he could further ruin wants to recant the strangulation testimony. If only he could speak at full volume. OJ Simpson offered a reward in similar circumstances when he was unfairly charged with doing something he did. But, innocent till proven Longhorn I guess. Just measuring his collar size for the perfect Longhorn buttondown shirt.

There have been like 3 official statements so far. Based on those statements, anything from being released and charges dismissed up to getting fired today and serving 10 years in jail is on the table.

Time for deep breaths. Probable cause statement not released yet and Beard himself still hasn't been released.

"Just measuring his collar size for the perfect Longhorn buttondown shirt. All a big misunderstanding." I added this above thinking CnB was slower on the roll. . . .

The problem with things like this is that it doesn't really matter whether he is innocent or guilty. When you are in a head coaching type position you simply can't have these things (arrests) happen, regardless of the circumstances.

Something obviously happened that was bad enough 911 got called by someone in the house.

If we only had a nickle for every time there was a misunderstanding for choking out a close relative.
