It's not that refs don't make mistakes, it's the unrelenting implication that refs are acting out some conspiracy against Kansas that gets so old to me. IMO, it's unseemly, lame, weak, to act as tho the refs have it in for us. To me, it's as if we're admitting that we're not good enough to win on our own. And because I resist the idea that there's an effort on their part to screw us, I think the mistakes and bad calls even out over time.
Well said.
I have never felt like refs "have it out" for KU (or KC).
Not sure why they would?

Oh certainly they don’t.
I’m not full Sparko.
But I also think it’s a little lame to pushback if an officiating crew obviously fucks up a lot on one side and say “refs shouldn’t matter, that’s just an excuse for loosing.”
Nah. Refs can make huge differences with their calls.

I don't disagree with that.

Refs missed an offsides that led to Beans fumble in the OSU game.
ksu was gifted a TD off a phantom hold.

Of course Kansas is good enough. But with age, you do see and remember many more games decided on specious calls going against KU in football. You want them to balance out--but usually bad calls were not meaningful as the team went through bad decades of play. I remember a game in the early 80s where the refs stomped on an 80 yard pass against Nebraska which would have made the final score 56-7 instead of 56-0. I have watched nearly every game in spite of the humiliating scores and strange calls. As the team gets better, I believe the calls will even out. But fans should be allowed to point stuff out. I do think basketball is going thru a bad time with physicality on defense. Brutal to watch the NBA. And many college teams using the Huggins thesis.

The ultimate problem with calling out the officials (habitually) is it demonstrates one’s subjective viewpoint on top of one that’s mostly objective.
Yes, mistakes are made. And sometimes they are horrible. But they mostly get the calls right, even though they sometimes don’t.
Rarely (yea it happens) do you see a fan base say the calls are going for them. It’s like many observations in life. None of us are ever the bad driver, for example, it’s generally everyone else that sucks.

I wasn't upset when the refs missed Svi's "euro step" layup (travel) to beat KState a few years ago.

Right.
But this just solidifies there are obviously times where the officials change the outcome of a game incorrectly.
( in that case in our favor with good reason for ksu fans to bitch )
There are a few posters here who tend to not recognize this when it’s happening and try to keep fans in check. It evens out over a long period of time but boy have there been some f ups this year regarding KU football in particular.

Well said PDub
Basketball can even out. Bill was on fire the other night and it helped even things out. Football not so much. To be champion, you can't lose. Conferences tend to keep their favorites protected.

My opinion, put a different way.
Many of us mock K-State fans, especially during basketball season, with the Staties in the Octagon, between their EMAW howling, Booooooooooooooing every call against them. It’s just a bad look.
And that’s what it feels like here sometimes. I understand being upset at some calls, for sure, but there are some that every single call is a conspiracy or wrong. And that’s extra weaksauce, IMO.

I don’t think the issue is biased refs. I think the issue is bigger, faster athletes, more complex actions, better/more cameras and easier, decentralized criticism.

Considering the spirited discussion that resulted from my previous mention of my son-in-law harvesting credit card rewards, I'm sure y'all understand the trepidation I feel bringing the subject up again in the following short video. (That's a lie, I love a spirited discussion...)
The Dark Side of Credit Card Rewards | NYT Opinion
Earn 75,000 bonus miles! Double cash back! Free flights! Discounts galore!
The enticements for credit card rewards programs promise fantasies. And for the privileged members who can convert taps of plastic into points, and those points into luxury, the process can feel like digital alchemy, or at least a delightful refutation of that adage about a free lunch.
But as the Opinion Video above explains, that lunch — or that points-purchased round-trip ticket to the Seychelles — isn’t really free.
Which raises the question: Who’s paying for it?

I can't watch the video at the moment. I presume the upshot is that the cost of providing the rewards ends up being put upon (in the form of scary interest rates) those who can't/don't pay off their balances each month?

Then, by way of increases to interchange fees that hit everyone on a proportional-to-spending basis (meaning, the fees are regressive in the same way that a flat sales tax (in lieu of progressive sales tax) would be regressive)?
