Do I think titles are dispositive? No; I don’t think UCONN is a better program than Kansas.
But the UCLA thing is different. They’re going to have a single title in a 50 year stretch. That’s not good enough to stay in the club.
So, KU was out of the blue blood club from 2002-2008.
Ever heard of Danny manning
Of course. Fish made statement its a stretch being a blue blood only having one title in fifty years. My comment simply a response to that. It’s just math based on what he said.
Y’all are funny.

For the record, I’d we weee voting, I wouldn’t put UConn in Blue Blood category. And of course KU is.

In 2002 we were 50 years removed from 1952 so we only had the 1988 title.
However in 2002 and 2003 we went back to back Final Fours with a champ appearance.

Wrong banner for the argument made (not by me).
More reason to dislike McNamara!
I’d rather be a KU fan than any other. UNC would be ok, for the most part, too, although having lived out east for a while, ewww.

I think our grasp on a spot was tenuous for a while. Easy to forget now, but Bill being Bill was like a 99.994th percentile outcome. We very very very very easily could have gone down the UCLA/Indiana road.

And still very well could once Bill decides to be done. Much like UNC is trending downward at the moment, Duke is unsure of future status and success as well.

Absolutely. But Bill gave us a lot of breathing room (really, our Indiana period was pre-Brown).

I’m in the group that thinks it will be easier in a couple years for the ‘established’ schools (lol, schools). With The portal and such. Right now we are still washing out 23rd year seniors and such. When those go away, talent going to be stacked more again, IMO.

It'll take a while to see how everything shakes out.
I think you could make a solid argument that NIL will be democratizing for talent, especially in basketball (where 2-3 guys on a roster can make an enormous difference).
I think you could also make a solid argument that NIL (plus the free transfer) will devastate smaller programs, because as soon as KU (for example) sees that a kid was overlooked and can play at this level, KU can run out and poach.

But if we're being revisionist, we could also point out if Matt Doherty had won 2 of his veryclose games that he lost at UNC in his final season, he gets into the NCAA tourney, saves his job and returns that stacked crew he recruited of May, McCants and Felton, which is good enough to keep him around longer.
Roi returns Simien, Langford, Miles and brings in Giddens, Padgett and Rodrick Stewart - his kinda dudes - is the 2 seed in St Louis, spits in the river, drinks some cokes - and gets over the hump at Kansas.
