Yes, they're allowed to work camps and things like that (which are paid), but there's some sort of "fair value" test. Obviously N/I/L is fundamentally different from that; you're not being paid $10k for two hours of your time for a photo shoot, you're being paid for what the sponsor will use those photos for.

Yes. They pay everyone at the same rate. But haven’t been able to find anyone else as qualified yet. But are actively looking.

This still blows my mind. "Works" at a car dealership then transfers to Sam Houston St. Watched him put up about 600 total yards himself against NDSU and people couldn't wrap their heads around why he couldn't be stopped, completely unaware to the fact he was the starting QB at Oklahoma the previous year.

I watched Bomar in the KU-OU game at Camarohead. Ugly ass game where almost no one scored. I also picked up an MIP.

Anyway, he played so well later that year I thought he was a future Heisman winner. Became infamous for something else.

You can argue forever, but the bottom line is that if you take the top 25, 50, 100 kids each year out of the mix, one of two things will happen. One, the next best will be highly sought after, and illicit money will change hands to get them to the top programs, so they remain the best and so tv money and advertising money and shoe/apparel money will continue to flow in to the sport and the top programs. Maybe it is less money, maybe not. Two, the money dries up, tv contracts go away, we all listen to radio broadcasts, maybe part of the NCAA tournament gets on espn like the college baseball regionals and the college baseball world series.

Or millions of scenarios in between.
So like one of one million and two things happen.

It is objectively true that if you open up a market, you reduce under-the-table behavior.

It is objectively true that if players could make G-League-ish money + benefits in college (which very much includes the cool shit that is unique to college), players would stay in college longer.

It is objectively true that good players staying in college longer results in a better on-court and in-arena product.

It is objectively true that a better on-court and in-arena product means greater visibility and a higher position on the sports totem pole.

That the benefits outweigh the detriments is, I suppose, subjective. But you should recognize that you don't get to use "well that's just your opinion" on all aspects of this issue.

A computer engineering student who invents a cool app can sell it, and not be locked out of the computer lab.

A law or business student can intern at firms/companies, and make the equivalent of starting salaries, and not be locked out of the library.

A medical student can "moonlight" at a rural hospital and make $2k+/night, and not be locked out of the lecture halls.

Fair doesn't mean equal.

G League pays the players who are right on the verge OR should be in the NBA and those players end up in the G League or ( if the 19 year old rule is eliminated ) the NBA, that might mean more players in college staying in college longer, which means teams can learn to play as a unit over years, rather than adapting one season to the next to a change over of OAD's.
