I honestly don't think this is a race issue although it affects a large number of African Americans because of where it is happening. It's just a power issue where a Police Chief has decided to use his police force to raise money for the city whether it is done legally or not. I would bet anything that if my white self drove my car with a Nebraska tag on it through their little town for a few days that I'd most likely end up with a ticket for some sort of moving violation.

I'd have to spend thousands of dollars on legal fees to fight the ticket if I felt it was unjust and it would most likely have to be heard by a court in that area, where the police chief is more than likely "in favor".

Brookside Alabama is 75% white. They have approximately 300 black people that live in that town. They are ticketing indiscriminately regardless of race (and possibly whether a violation has occurred or not).

This isn't affected a large number of people because the town is small. It is affecting the same 1,200ish residents over and over and over again it would appear by those insane numbers.

I was just informing you of the population and demographics of that tiny ass town with a corrupt police force.

This crazy increase in ticketing also coincides with a population decline of the town, which is even more fucked up. They're literally chasing people off.

But yes, I agree with you that this is corrupt and should not be going on. I hope they are sued and arrested for any crimes that may have been committed.

Even worse is the comments by our MICH here, which show that some people simply blindly believe that a law enforcement officer would never break the law or utilize it for nefarious means and that arrests and citations only occur when people break laws/rules. Nothing could be further from the truth.

At least you saw a trial as a juror. Last time I had jury duty I had to sit in a room for 7 hours (3 hours, an hour lunch break, and then another 4 hours) without being allowed to use my phone - and I never got called.
Time before that at least they let me leave right after I got back from the lunch break.
