"But it just didn't make any sense. There's unvaxxed people in this building already. We got a guy who can come in the building, I guess, are they fearing our safety? I don't get it. We're all confused. Pretty much everybody in the world is confused at this point. Early on in the season people didn't understand what was going on, but now it just looks stupid. So hopefully, Eric, you got to figure this out."

Big "many people are saying" energy here.

I don't mean this with any particular meanness: the reason that "stick to sports" and "shut up and dribble", while crude, persist, is that often the success and virtuosity of professional athletes (and actors and musicians and so on) is because of their (1) singular focus and (2) ability to tune/drown out introspection and doubt.

These are admirable qualities in many ways!

But they do make one an unreliable source of, say, public health advice.

On this we agree!

Trillions of dollars, and hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of lives, would have been saved had we (America) handled this in a clear-eyed and responsible fashion.

Nice to start a week in harmony like this.

At this point, and working with his back record, I am confident that Kyrie is fine with being paid to not work.

This. Spending the crucial first few months pretending it didn’t exist was absolutely stupid.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

It actually is. Precious time was wasted, and resources denied that could have been used mitigating the spread at the beginning. 2 months in, Trump was running the idea of injecting bleach into human beings.

not what i was getting at, but you aren’t wrong

my point was that the people in charge weren’t following the science then because it was inconvenient…such is also the case now, because it’s inconvenient

vaccination rates in Africa are around 10%

covid has now been documented in pangolins, one the most trafficked wild animals on the planet. evidence is growing that zoonotic back-spill is possible from deer to humans. new variants continue to emerge (no, mich, i didn’t make up deltacron). the developed world has decided they’re done with covid, science damned, and will now relegate it to the developing world…much like any number of other diseases that were once widespread but now only impact the tropical poor

Thankfully some states (that aren't broke too) will be able to continue those types of services.

States have tax dollars too. And tbh they are probably better suited to assess their local health situations/needs than the federal government.

the cities, states, local municipalities are overflowing with federal Covid monies.

I’m glad Washington shut off the spicket.

If the Merican people mattered as much as bombing shithole countries no one can even find on a map, we woulda had more than enough funding by now.

Ok, this is the second time in a week (and in my life) that I have heard someone say/type spicket instead of spigot. Is this some kind of regional thing or closer to "pre-madonna," "all intensive purposes," bone apple tea" thing?
