from a "competition on the field, from top to bottom standpoint" the BIG 12 is no worse off subtracting two and adding 4. i'm a fan. that's all i care about.

weren’t rutgers and maryland surprise adds to the B1G when that happened?

The B1G and PAC publicly stated so because their phones were blowing up with reporters asking the same. It's a lot easier to stay quiet when no one is asking the question.
The alliance is nothing, so need need to mention it.
And, there's always Notre Dame, which I think we know enough to say the B1G would add in a heartbeat.

seems we’ll be worse off financially, which eventually will impact all aspects of the AD

Bingo--that's a conference that has always played it quiet.
I'm also not saying that there is any hard evidence they want KU right now or in the future. But, we can't assume that the B1G is not, internally, interested in expanding. And, there's a price on everything. If LSU asked to be in the B1G, there's interest.

We just have to make it 4 years.
None of these schools are suddenly going to develop into programs that a tv network is going to pay millions more to broadcast. I expect that the Big 12 schools will be shopping for better deals. But if it turns out that all the Mormons in the world all start tuning in in record numbers to see their BYU program play the better teams of the Big 12 then I will be thrilled. Win-win.
I understand your premise, but you don't
know this. UCF taking a spot in the playoffs and doing well would do wonders for their network appeal. Same is true for any of the others.
Granted, it's speculative, but that was my larger point to begin with. The addition of new schools will not, in the CFB world as it is, be a matter of choosing a "superstar" prgm and working them into the fold. There're none to be had. It seems to
require a good deal of speculation.
I never suggested that stability would come simply because a Mormons-watching-teevee demographic is added to the conference audience.
Who the fu** knows, anyway? We're all just bystanders...
I guess I should have said "None of these schools are likely to develop into programs that a tv network is going to pay millions more to broadcast between now and three years from now when they start formally looking for a new conference". One-time wonders don't move the needle from a tv contract perspective and there isn't much time left for anything but a one year wonder season from any of these teams. I suppose that if one of them made multiple playoff appearances in the next three seasons then it would be more likely but I don't see that happening. But as you said, who knows for sure. I'd be surprised if we are still in the Big 12 past 2025 but I have been surprised before. So long as KU keeps fielding a good basketball team then I am good.

Yep. "At this time, we have no interest in expanding" doesn't mean that tomorrow they aren't interested. And there is zero consequence for them doing the complete opposite of what they state so I don't think that their stated comments about not wanting to expand at this time mean anything in regards to what might happen four years from now.

The teams that left the Big 12 essentially abandoned the house they helped build. OU and UT go from being marquee schools in their own conference to visitor status. The money could have been equivalent if they had kept building the conference. But they set fire to it. It was an impulsive move for teams that simply didn't need to ever move. It wasn't the conference's fault that Alabama became a professional team. To stand out in the SEC, they'll have to spend more to get less recognition. For those two teams, trading their own conference to be western visitors to the SEC. In reality, they were manipulated into it by ESPN who wanted to cut their bottom line by reducing conferences to a couple with repackaged legacy schools. But the joke is that OU and UT are big enough to play at their own table. At least they were. I am not enthralled by the B1G. We actually need to look at new revenue streams and be satisfied we are a charter member of a league we built.

a league whose members are in the doorstep of second-class status financially
even rats know that there comes a time to jump ship

I don't know. I think OU/UT read the room and understood that with the changes coming (to the NCAA governing the conferences), it probably made sense to move into what will eventually be the de-facto super football conference.
My assumption is the SEC read the tea leaves as well, and they understood what they currently have and where they want to be - essentially in control of the vast majority of revenue generated by college football across the country. OU and UT were the easy marks, given the relative liquidity of the B12. It wouldn't surprise me if within the next 24-36 months, the SEC goes after (quietly, behind the scenes) Clemson and potentially other top-tier FB programs. When they do that, the cat will be out of the bag, so-to-speak, and the PAC, B1G, and ACC will have to either make substantial changes, or get left behind.

At the moment, there is no more logical prediction for the future.

My point is OU and UT could have set the conditions for a super conference helping those they had worked with for decades. They haven't been proactive at anything to help the Big 12, so, like Ben Franklin, I wish them the same fate they thought awaited the schools that had allowed them to lead us to this place. Sometimes you have to hang with the folks who fought with you, but you do not need to pretend those who fought against you did so for defensible principles. A lot of maybes and hope sos to sell out the league you dominated and tried to wreck.

Haven’t been following, are the KU to Big 10 rumors now dead, or is that still a possibility?
