Google is building a coronavirus website, but it doesn’t look anything close to what Trump announced

The White House is turning to Google to build a new screening website for anyone wanting information on how to get tested for the coronavirus, President Trump said on Friday. However, there are some discrepancies between the White House and Google versions of what the site will be able to do, where it will do it, and when.

The site will actually be built by Verily, the life sciences division of Google parent company Alphabet that focuses on research and development around health issues, the company confirmed.

...But in a short statement shared on Twitter an hour and a half after the announcement, Verily said the website was only in “the early stages of development.” The tool will start in the San Francisco Bay area first with “the hope of expanding more broadly over time.”

Andrew Conrad, Verily’s CEO, used to be the chief science officer at LabCorp.

As first reported by the Verge, the tool will be built on Verily’s Project Baseline, which collects health data from volunteers. The Verily site wasn’t supposed to be for the general public at first, but the company has changed that plan since the announcement.

I'm in the Nike store on Michigan Avenue almost once a day. Selfishly, I can say this affects me because it's one of my daily rituals that I get pleasure from.
Unselfishly, I consider many of their employees to be my friends. A Nike spokesperson said, "workers will still be paid in full during this time off". Still, I am concerned how this will affect them.
My bigger concern is what major brands/stores are going to follow suit?

Sure we can still order things on-line but I figure this is going to lead to more panic/chaotic buying and companies are not equipped/prepared to deal with it.

When a republican governor speaks the truth in this Time of Trump, it helps to give you at least a little bit of hope*.
