Rick Scott is a Florida leader who has aggressively supported Trump. He just happens to remember there are a lot of Puerto Ricans in Florida and wants to deflect the blame from Trump to the comedian so that Trump doesn't lose too many votes over it.

If Trump loses Florida then he has zero path to victory and Rick Scott knows it. There are 1.1 million Puerto Ricans in Florida, more than 470k in Pennsylvania, more than 110k in North Carolina, more than 100k in Georgia, more than 60k in Wisconsin, more than 60k in Arizona and more than 40k in Michigan. It is not a campaign killer but it is certainly not a Nothingburger.
Trump will not lose Florida. The only people who can't understand/take a joke are called Dims, and they weren't going to vote for him anyway.
I won't vote for or against Trump because of a joke someone told at his rally.
I might vote for or against Trump because of the way his followers (notice I didn't say supporters?) reacted and responded to the jokeS (plural). That is/was what was more offensive to me than the actual jokes.

In regard to if Trump will or won't lose Florida.
Trump won Florida by about 1% in 2016.
Trump won Florida by about 3% in 2020.
I wouldn't count on Trump winning or losing Florida based on what people THINK may or may not happen.

My belief also is that Trump is desperate to stay out of prison, and has purposefully seeded his followers with the delusion that he’s winning.

And so, yes, I am very strongly hoping that this will be yet another thing that pushes margins further away from the zone of fuckery.

I suspect that we’re going to see many - dozens? - of things like that, for the purpose (among others) of creating out of thin air support for the argument that the direct results of the election should be disregarded.

Informing this suspicion is the obviousness of just how little Trump/Vance care about winning votes legitimately.

My first thought when I heard about it was that it was desperate Harris supporters doing what desperate Harris supporters do.

You don't seem to know what birthright citizenship is. Per the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution:

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."
