Yeah, 19 and 21 were down.
16,17,18 were pretty great. (Does 16 count?) All #1 seeds 3E8s, 1F4.
And 20 we were gonna be overall #1.

I'm sure also very good.
But like 16-21 has 2 "down" years, so does 11-16 and 06-11.
Directly related would be our kenpom SOS which every season included in the 16-21 was top 25 and if you scrap 21, top 8 ( 3 top 2 finishes ).

16-21 has two “down” years with weak tournaments plus not winning conference, and one year we didn’t even get a postseason.
And we still had more wins than the second best team that in that same stretch also happened to win two natties.
Without looking at it, what would our single best 5 year span be?

If we are looking for strongest kenpom wins I think you go with 08-12 as we had the number one overall toughest SOS in 12.
09 is the down year but we still finished top 15 in kenpom.

Agbaji had a message to deliver. Two years earlier, he told them, there was a belief that started in the preseason that the Jayhawks were on a path toward a national title.
“That’s what was set in stone from day one,” he says. “We actually had that goal. We had a successful season shooting towards something higher than taking it game by game. It was just a mindset thing that carried us a long way that started long before the even the season even began.”
Agbaji feels that now, sitting in the captain’s chair in September.
After Self made an adjustment to his ball-screen coverage and made it a priority to keep the ball out of the middle of the floor, Kansas had a nine-game stretch starting in February that was arguably the best defensive stretch for any team in the country last year. And yet …
“We lost the best defender in the country (in Marcus Garrett), but we’re better defensively,” Self says. “We should be better defensively.”
The biggest issue for KU’s offense was the absence of playmaking guards. That led to a big drop off in the ability to play out of ball screens, which has become imperative in Self’s offense. His offensive formula is pretty simple: put two small playmaking guards on the floor and play around a scoring big in the post.
“We played with one guard last year, for the most part,” Self says.
Arizona State scored 0.982 points per trip on ball-screen generated offense that involved Martin, and Drake scored 0.965 points per trip in those situations with Yesufu.
“We’re gonna be so much better,” Self says. “I also think our returning guys will be much better utilizing them.”
Braun was the returning starter most in danger of moving to the bench, but it’s hard to see that happening the way Self talks about him now.
“So much, so much stronger, and he seems to be more confident and seems to be better with the ball,” Self says. “I’m expecting big things from all these guys, but I’m expecting CB to have a breakout year, so to speak. He had a really good year last year, and he had a really good freshman year. But I think there’s a big, big step he can still take and look forward to watching him do it.”
Ochai Agbaji is asked which Kansas player has the loudest voice in the room — another way of asking who is this team’s leader — and Agbaji confidently answers himself. Everyone around the program has noticed that Agbaji is carrying himself in a different way since returning this summer. He’s always worn a smile and been outgoing, but his confidence in his game and his voice is growing.
“I’m just going to try to dunk,” he says. “I’m just going to try to go to the rim and jump as high as possible. Just having that mindset continuously is going to turn into a habit.”
Expected to start alongside Agbaji on the wing is redshirt sophomore Jalen Wilson, who like Braun, has drawn rave reviews from Self for his offseason work.
“He’s in unbelievable physical condition,” Self says. “He was so much better than he was as a freshman when he came back last year, and he’s a lot better than where he was when the season ended. I’m just totally impressed with how hard he’s worked, and his skill seems to be better — more consistent shooting the ball — and he is just a more competent, more aggressive basketball player.”
“I have no problem admitting how slow that first half of the season was for me,” McCormack says. “I think that it was just kind of overbearing pressure I put on myself. Once it got to a point it was really just like, ‘Yo, screw it. Play your game. Play like you know how to play and just don’t think.’ And that’s really the mindset I’m taking to this year, like you’ve proven that you can already do it … just do that all year.”
Self says he’ll use two-big lineups 10 to 15 percent of the time. For reference, that would be way more often than last year. McCormack and Mitch Lightfoot were on the floor at the same time for only 40 possessions, according to Hooplens.com lineup data. Going big this year could be a tricky fit defensively, but offensively both Martin and freshman Zach Clemence are good enough shooters that the Jayhawks should be able to make the spacing work. McCormack says that Clemence has improved more than any player since the summer.
Asked to describe their new point guard, “speed” is the first word that comes to mind for both McCormack and Agbaji. It’s a little reminiscent of playing with Devon Dotson, but their games are not identical. Dotson was like a one-man fast break, McCormack explains. Martin likes to push the pace, but so far McCormack has noticed Martin is looking to pass more and is willing to pull it out if there’s nothing there.
“I had to do a little bit more at Arizona State — shoot shots that maybe weren’t the best shots — but I did it because I felt like that was our best chance,” Martin says. “Here I don’t think I need to do that. I think people kind of expect me to shoot more here, but I don’t need to. For the most part, the game is just penetrate and kick, and we have so many talented guys that anybody could do it on any given night.”
“He’s got to look to score more than what he has,” Self says. “He’ll go practices without shooting the ball, just because he wants to just get other guys shots has been his focus.”
“People here just want to win,” [Remy] says. “And I think they’re used to winning. Me being a newcomer, I want to carry on that tradition and not let it drop. I want to be able to be a part of this legacy in the right way.”

I don't think anyone outside of ous and mjl thought CB wouldn't be in line to start. Which . . .
But, hopefully, we just have a healthy rotation of heavy: Remy, CB, Yesufu, Och with Harris/Lands splitting the spell minutes. And then DMac, Wilson, Mitch/Clemence.
7 guys are going to get the minutes and then depending on whether you need shooting or ball movement, you choose Lands or Harris. The frosh need to all consider RS's. Cuffe is hurt, anyway.
But, hopefully, we just have a healthy rotation of heavy: Remy, CB, Yesufu, Och with Harris/Lands splitting the spell minutes. And then DMac, Wilson, Mitch/Clemence.

Which is a reasonable take.
As opposed to reading Self's words there as a guarantee that Braun will start (implied by Illy's comment), while also implying that others have definitively said they think Braun will not start, which is not a good take
