Yeah, damn you, Biden!
Republicans have been against doing anything real about immigration for decades because it would take demagoging the issue to their bigoted white supremacist base off the table:

Earlier on in the Biden administration, there were headlines about how immigrants were still being kept in cages and families were still being separated and stuff. But at least those headlines, at least, haven’t been around for a while.
And, pretty sure Biden’s still gonna Build! The! Wall!
And, one of the conditions for asylum being, having to apply for through an app. As if some fleeing migrant also has a smart phone.
And, remember this story?

smh. If that was all the Biden Admin. was doing, you'd have a much stronger point.
Trump closed these processing centers, forcing asylum seekers to come to our border to begin the application process. Which is THE goal for republicans, creating as much drama at the border as possible to fire up their bigoted base, and to hell with the human suffering, because cruelty is the point.
The Biden administration on Thursday announced plans to establish immigration processing centers throughout Latin America to help slow down the number of migrants coming to the U.S.
The regional processing centers in Guatemala and Colombia should be up and running in the coming weeks, said Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a joint press conference. Additional details will be announced in the coming weeks about how many centers they will set up as they negotiate with additional countries. A memo obtained by POLITICO suggested that other hubs could be in Ecuador and eventually Costa Rica.
...U.S. international partners, including the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration, will screen migrants at these centers and determine if they qualify for entry before the migrants can try to move on to the U.S. southern border. If eligible, migrants will be referred for refugee resettlement or other lawful pathways such as parole programs, family reunification or existing labor pathways. Migrants will also receive local information about host countries and available social services.
...The U.S. expects to initially screen at least 5,000 or 6,000 migrants a month at the new processing centers, Mayorkas said.
“The whole model is to reach the people where they are — to cut the smugglers out and to have them avoid the perilous journey that too many do not make. But we are beginning in Guatemala and Colombia. We are beginning at the level that I described, and we will scale up,” he said.
Canada and Spain have agreed to accept referrals from the processing centers, officials said.
The processing centers are just one piece of the administration’s multi-pronged response as the White House tries to strike a balance of deterrence with creating additional legal pathways. Officials also announced the expansion of the family reunification parole program to include Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Colombia, a program previously only available to Cubans and Haitians. They are also increasing the number of applications available on the CBP One app for migrants in Central and Northern Mexico...

there was a recent story on cbs about migrants crossing Panama at the one spot the trans-American highway couldn’t be built - the Darien Gap
i’ve heard/read similar accounts
imo, people who are willing to risk so much for just a chance at all we take for granted deserve an opportunity
also heard recently that if all the jobless in this country were hired, we’d still have more than 4 million job openings

THIS. Any claims about Biden being soft on the border can just stuff it in their ear. Changes are needed and those changes require funding. Funding that was voted down by Republicans.

When the Fascist, I mean, the "Freedom Caucus", says the quiet part out loud:
By agreeing to a 2-year deal raising the debt limit, McCarthy is catching hell from some republican house members because now their cult leader won’t be able to run for president on a crashed economy:

I almost think the stuttering and misspeaks and general boringness obscures how well Biden knows this game. Now some wildcard in the House loony bin is going to cash in the "one person can call a vote on Kevin" chit...and the pubs will again make a foolish public spectacle of themselves. Right in time to kick off the '24 cycle in earnest.

^^^
And not only that, Biden has managed to put ~ 99.9% of the fate of the debt limit increase on the backs of House Republicans, so if it does fail and the economy tanks, he won't get nearly the blame he would have before the agreement.
Along with getting the republican house and senate caucuses to loudly proclaim, i.e., SCREAM, their opposition to cutting Medicare and Social Security despite it being a HUGE decades-long goal for many of them, during his state of the union address, a fair-minded person might get the idea that, indeed,
"Biden knows this game...well".

What’s more, she’s now openly admitting she was working for Russia when falsely claiming in 2020 that Biden assaulted her in the 90s.
Very very “every accusation” vibes (as Trump and Rs are presently horny for claiming “ELECTION INTERFERENCE” by the dems).

On a macro level, one of the most frustrating things about
all of this is just how incredibly stupid and transparent the gotcha games are...and yet how EFFECTIVE they are.
