it's not like most years where we have veteran bigs. this year we have nothing but underclassman bigs. they have to produce. they are all we got.

CrimsonNBlue wrote: Thu Nov 17, 2022 10:45 am Udeh needs so much run, right now. He might be a little too green against Jackson-Davis, but he should be getting to be pretty good when we meet Tshiebwe.

I am great playing small ball, but the best teams can play a few different ways. Nothing's changed since before the season: Udeh development is a big part of reaching the team ceiling.
if anything has changed, it's that maybe Zuby is more ready for minutes than we thought, too.
Very true. I shouldn't exclude Zuby. I'm just biased towards Udeh because he looks the part, so I like him more. Zuby understood his role very well against duke, though.

yea. Udeh's got the elite size.

But Zuby's not exactly small, especially for a freshy.

6'9" and built like a brick house.

And, just didn't seem completely lost. More poise than your average young big.

I'm all in on zuby. He'll do ok this season. Probably have a costly fuck up at some point. But hoping he's a jayhawk for the long haul. 4 years of zuby please

Both Zuby and Udeh do the thing young bigs tend to do which is chase blocks they aren't going to make, on shots that aren't going in, leaving weakside offensive glass wide open for easy put backs. Happened at least 1 time to each of them against Duke.

Both Udeh and Ejiofor will likely be at Kansas for at least three years so I'll just cheer for each of them to soak up every drop of feedback they get in practice and to continue to work hard to improve. Both seem to be talented and competent and should help anchor the KU big man rotation for a few years. It's not a coincidence that the Class of '23 is all guards so far.

MJ Rice practiced today.

No update on Clemence status.

Let's say Udeh and Zuby both stay 2+ years. Which seems highly likely.

How on earth does Clemence stay here? There is no way he ever plays more than 15mpg with those guys ahead of him at the 5. And even if Zuby isn't all the way ahead of him yet, he will be soon.

Clemence has to become mobile enough to guard 4s (and switch/hedge somewhat competently) so that he can play alongside those guys at the 4 if he wants serious playing time....that seems sort of unlikely to me.

Selfishly, I hope he is comfortable being a career backup/bench guy who plays 5-10mpg each season and provides stability for us and stays all 4 years. Like a more talented Mitch Lightfoot. Try to become the first jayhawks to win 2 national titles.

I'm expecting clemence to transfer after this season. Unless he manages to get healthy and crack the rotation this year.

Its understandable. Hes an awkward fit for how we play these days. But he is a talented player. If he can't get minutes this year he deserves to go somewhere else where he can

It's not even necessarily bad fit style wise. He just isn't better than the guys younger than him that are also at his position.

Clemence could become a Timme clone.
With some effort

Timme abuses people in the paint/on the block. And has been since he was like a sophomore. Never seen anything like that from clemence

I want to see what Clemence can do if he ever actually plays more than 3 possessions without getting the ol' Rocky Balboa to the face.

Yes. He's doesn't fuck up as much as Yesufu or McCullar or Rice.

Yes.

Not all the time. But some of the time. He fucks up less than Yes/McCullar, and is better at defense than Yes/Gradey/Rice.

5mpg of those 2 on the floor together is fine....i don't mind a lineup of DH BP KM JW KJ. Not much shooting though.

I’m still waiting for the day Yesufu makes me eat crow but I don’t know if he’s worth trying out there anymore.
