COVID-19 numbers
Re: COVID-19 numbers
Yeah.
Plenty of protestors may have traveled, but I’d guess the majority of them protested in the same communities in which they reside.
I’d also guess not many Sturgis attendees are residents of that community. The vast majority traveled there.

Re: COVID-19 numbers
I mean, so much of the protests have economic implications. Protestors protested largely cuz they’re disadvantaged, which is to say not economically able to do things like travel, much less travel with their Harley on their trailer.

The mind is an amazing thing. It can contort and twist and manipulate however needed to make right.

Re: COVID-19 numbers
What do you mean by that?
Re: COVID-19 numbers
It means youre mind has convinced you that since its a good cause the virus chooses not to spread.

Re: COVID-19 numbers
Really what I'm saying is they shoild have the same article about Sturgis. But for the protests it should have had an article about the risks vs the cause and what the cost is for change yadda yadda.
Instead, they had an article that claimed that the protest didnt spread the virus at all. Thats complete bullshit.
Everytime there is a gathering of people, particularly a diverse group from different areas of the city, county, state, country you have conditions suitable for and the potential for the virus to spread. Simple as that.

Re: COVID-19 numbers
I never meant to say the virus chooses not to spread depending on the cause:
But if you want to limit the discussion to the pandemic in a vacuum, they both have potential to spread. But within that same vacuum, one could be argued as more dangerous, since it probably involves more travelers, to and from, bringing more potential to spread to more communities. Certain activities (bars, lap dances) May be more likely to contribute to the spread as well.
And okay, adding context is, well, for context. I do see some difference between one feeling desperate and the other feeling entitled, but that is besides the point in terms of spreading a pandemic. The virus won’t differentiate.ousdahl wrote: ↑Sun Aug 09, 2020 2:55 pm From a purely pandemic-related concern, yeah, they have a lot of the same features that could contribute to the spread of the virus.
But perhaps it’s worth mentioning one event is in protest against centuries of brutal systemic oppression, and the other one is a leisure vacation to enjoy motorcycles and fake tits.

Re: COVID-19 numbers
Im playing a little DA here....and i dont think they are equal in terms of importance etc....
But, shouting shoulder to shoulder, locking arms and chanting, huddling together in a cloud of tear gas probably contribute to the spread similar to a bar setting.

Re: COVID-19 numbers
Because it is. I dont go inside. Or touch anything other than my own stuff. I wipe the cart steering wheel off before i get in just to be overly cautious. I ride alone. We stay away from each other.
It isnt "no risk", but it is definitely "low risk". Same risk as taking a walk i would imagine.
Re: COVID-19 numbers
FORE!

Re: COVID-19 numbers
Indeed, those sorts of things could be among the certain activities. I didn’t mean to say they didn’t, so thanks for pointing out as much.
And fwiw I didn’t attend protests, only out of caution due to the pandemic, cuz it’s not like I don’t support the cause. I didn’t attend Sturgis either, at least this year.
And not that I mean to condone any irresponsible behavior relating to the pandemic. But “we’re risking pandemic spread cuz we feel our civil rights depend on this” still just hits me different than “we’re risking pandemic spread because we wanna go on vacation.”
Re: COVID-19 numbers
And thats all well and good, feel however you want. But our media should report. Not feel. That was my beef.

Re: COVID-19 numbers
There's one Sturgis. There were protests in every state, each complaining about out of state rioters.zsn wrote: ↑Sun Aug 09, 2020 4:25 pm I should have qualified the scale. Just about everyone at Sturgis is not from there. I doubt that the majority of protesters in Minnesota were from out of State. I would also venture a guess (only a guess) that a larger proportion of protesters wore a mask than bikers.
Sturgis will look like a wagon wheel radiating from one hub. The protests are like a web of connections.

Re: COVID-19 numbers
Illy's golf ball never goes into any of the 18 holes that everyone golfing the course sticks their dirty virus covered hand in.
And he must own his own golf bag. And he lives on the course so it doesn't increase the number of times he goes to the gas station.
Illy thinks the rally is good because motorcycles are outdoors and most people ride them alone.

Re: COVID-19 numbers
You dont golf do you?
1) you dont have to touch anything but your ball to get it out of the hole. We wont even mention that most people never actually get their ball into the hole on every hole since hardly anyone putts everything out....they also have various things in place to make getting the ball out of the hole easier so people touch nothing but their ball.
2) how long do you think the virus survives on a cup that is hypothetically touched by a virus covered hand? Outside. Likely in sunlight....and even if it survives the 5-10 minutes before the next group is getting their ball out of the hole, will the viral load be enough to infect someone? Lots of golf being played and no outbreaks related to actual golfing (hanging out in the bar afterwards is another topic).
I am not sure what your issue is with golf tbh. It is strange since in most posts you do seem to understand how the virus is transmitted, and golf itself seems like a very unlikely place for infections to occur.
And why is going to a gas station an issue? I wear a glove to pump the gas. I pay at the pump. So risk of me catching the virus is 0% assuming i take the glove off correctly.

You do golf, don’t you?
1. Goofy pants.
2. Fat ass.
You should talk to my neighbor, the accountant, probably a great golfer. Huge ass.
(It was either that or some joke about illy touching a hole covered in viral loads...)

Re: COVID-19 numbers
I wish it were a sweet MJ glove....but in reality i mostly just use old golf gloves or cheap throw away latex type gloves.
