it sucks that the sentiment of "No American willing to work full time should still have to live in poverty" is dismissed as some unrealistic and unsustainable hot take.

and the common exception is some little mom and pop shop just barely scratching by, but bear in mind Taco Bell is a big multinational megacorporation that generates billions in revenue.

you live in some sort of alternate reality devoid of the restrictions of existence.

this "existence" you speak of, on some economic level, has largely been created by the ruling classes. It's almost some gaslight, of sorts. (you know, like how you're trying to gaslight me with the "you live in some sort of alternate reality" shtick)

that so few Mericans are able to recognize as much, is a testament to the lack of class consciousness in this country.

if only those bait shop and fast food workers had the education and the sense to organize.

never got the place off the ground.

I couldn't find any good employees even tho I was up front in explaining to each applicant that this is a lower class position, meant to be an entry level job, or supplemental income, not a career to support a family, what more do they want?

But the fact I couldn't find any good employees has nothing to do with any of that.

It must be because No OnE WaNtS To WoRk AnY MoRe!!!!!!

now that every person is starting out at 18 bucks an hour, no American should be living in poverty. Unless of course they are spending their paycheck on the drugs.

I give TDub the benefit of the doubt. He seems like a smart enough dude.

His issue seems more that he confuses what I'm saying, with the words he tries to put in my mouth. I don't think that necessarily indicates a lack of intelligence, but rather something else.

If I did say somewhere that I prefer everyone makes a six figure salary, please help me find it. Cuz otherwise, I think only one who specifically threw that figure out there was TDub.

not every single job can be a career job with benefits.
do you happen to know speficially how they're paid each day? Are they cut a check? Cash? Something else?

they can do whatever they want.....but for an entry level job that isn't a real option for a career path for 99% of people it seems a little overboard. Now you have to pay for union reps and union lawyers and the bureaucratic structure within the union. Now all these fast food workers are paying monthly union dues. I mean...why? $18/hr is pretty damn good for the 18 year old that the job is most likely staffed by....its not a career job. Its reasonable to recognize some jobs aren't going to make a lot of money, some jobs aren't going to support a family.

yea, I suppose union fees and such are something to consider.

bear in mind tho, things like "entry level job" and "career job" are just capitalist constructs.

I'm wondering if fast food would be a more respectable work if they had better union representation all along.

I'm also wondering what fast food (and other job markets) would look like if fast food workers themselves owned the means of production as a matter of economic model, rather than the current model of ownership by some separate class of capitalists.

no, fast food work is going to be a low level, transitory position regardless of if its unionized or not. It's not a tremendously fulfilling position and I highly doubt there's going to be too terribly many people interested in making that their careers. Entry level positions aren't capitalist constructs, thats your memes talking. Some jobs are not ever going to be equal to other jobs, thats not capitalism thats life.

Own the means of production....sure, get them to put together the capital to get that started and there's nothing to stop them from banding together and owning a franchise right now.

Also bear in mind that unionizing also has a way of putting limitations on the industry. Depending on how inclusive you make the union, youre going to require specific training and potentially licensing to acquire and keep your union status. If your an independent or private chef (again, depends on how far you go with this food workers union), then you are no longer able to set your own rates, your wages and pricing and benefits are now set by the union, not by the individual.

Unions can be great, they can also be limiting and reduce workers to simply cogs in a machine.....which, is kind of what you seem to want to be fighting against with your anger towards capitalism.
