It's already good enough a story that you don't need to alter it.
Doing so will A. likely make the story worse and B. piss off all the fans.
So they didn't alter it for the first episode and hopefully will continue not to.

yknow its crazy. I dont pay attention much to internet speeds etc. If it works it works, if it doesn't, then oh well.

But, CnBs comment of only having 100mbs download speed and then his follow up of the standard around there is 300-500 is just crazy to me. What are people doing that necessitates that sort of speed?

It got me curious so I've checked mine several times over the past few days. I'm running a solid 11-14 myself. I got up 17.3 once.

I stream, its my only TV show option. We have phones iPad etc connected. Ive never had an issue or noticed a problem. I know I'm not a big tech guy and I dont do a lot of internet stuff.

But if I can get by, seemingly fine, with 13mbs ..how on earth are people using 300+??
Your download speed is only 11-14 Mbps? Google "internet speed test" and use that one and tell me what it gives you for a download speed. Mine runs between 475-525 Mbps so maybe just check a different tool.
that's what I used this morning before I left for work. This morning I was running at 13.2 maps.

It does plenty for what I need. When I lived in town I could get 75-100. Out here I can't. But, I really haven't noticed a need for any more bandwidth. I stream tv....but I guess I dont do much else online other than surf the web occasionally and whatever.

But I guess that's what stuck out to me about CnBs comment about only 100....
when we had 100 it was blazing fast, I juat cant imagine personally ever needing more. Thats all, I realize I do less online than some, I just had no idea it was so prevalent to have such high speeds. Everything is high speed compared to the dial up I was used to haha
There's obviously the gamers, the designers, the work-from-homers, the 4k streamers etc. driving up demand. Part of it is that high speed just gets cheaper and cheaper and technology improves and, most importantly, is installed. I pay $30 for 100MB.

But, one thing that is also driving up demand, which your household is likely experiencing as well: the number of connected devices just keeps growing in pretty much every house. I used to have like a laptop, desktop, and phone connected. Now, there's like 25+ devices in homes. Thermostats, vacuums, security systems, doorbells, ovens, small appliances, big appliances, pet stuff, exercise equipment, watches, TV's, streaming devices, consoles, tablets, and everything else. That bogs down a router. The consumer wants more bandwidth, and it's becoming affordable.

downside of living where I do.....I pay $65/mo for the 14mbps I get....

Also, yes there is certainly increased demand I suppose. Although, I absolutely refuse to use appliances or vacuums or pet things or exercise equipment thats needs or uses wifi. It is insane that our entire lives need to be connected. My fridge doesn't need to be connected to the goddamn internet.....that shit is ridiculous (personal opinion, of course).

JFC

How do you expect your fridge to google things if it is not connected to the internet?

Time to stop being a caveman TDub.

You'll start seeing it more and more as your kids get older.

Generally agree on appliances, don't need the fridge. I get it for things like slow cookers and sous vide, etc. for people that cook while away from home. Exercise equipment is pretty cool, e.g. Peloton. Thermostat is amazing. There's a really large convenience and even cost-saving factor to some stuff, and then just straight data collection on other stuff.

i was skeptical at first, but santa brought me a new smoker last year and the wifi option is quite nice, particularly in inclement weather or after dark

Thinking about something like Roomba, you can cut your vacuuming duties by like 50%+. But then Amazon also has a blueprint of your house. However, I'm also fine with that. I hate vacuuming.

Put me in TDub's camp.

Broom and a regular vacuum to clean.
Fridge ( gotta have the ice maker though, spoiled there ) that you open to check if you have the things you need.
Charcoal started in a chimney, 4 AM flashlight, checking the temp outside every hour or so and adjusting the vents.
Gym, running outside or free weights in the house.
Thermostat set to a daily routine.

I don't need wifi for that stuff.

I hate all of this. People are going to forget how to do simple tasks.

Can't wait til the wifi comes out and changes my tire.

im old I guess. I think its all fucking stupid.

I can vacuum my own damn house when I get home....takes 20 minutes. The fridge can keep food cold without checking in with google data collection agency.

The entire point of a slow cooker is I can put the roast in when I leave for work....and guess what? It cooks all day and the roast is ready when I get home.....I dont need to check it. If I could check it....why would I? If its burning I can't leave work to drive 30-60miles to get it off the heat anyway...

The best smoked meat is one that is left alone and not opened. If I am constantly checking the temp....or the internet is constantly adjusting the temp its....worse.

I think its all completely asinine.

Im also way off topic and on a rant that really doesn't matter. So, I'll stop

Thanks for listening. Did you see that cloud? I scared it off with my yelling at it.

Well it's not always asinine as it can save both time and money.

But anyone can either use it or not.

I assume some thought it was also ridiculous to get a car when they had a perfectly fine horse.

This is a dumb analogy and i've heard it before here and elsewhere in similar situations.

You don't need cruise control, just use your foot for 5+ hours. Never mind that it saves money and is more convenient.

Actually, I'm guessing most people do think like that considering how many people in the left lane refuse to use cruise control.

I'm not saving money with a wifi controlled thermostat, or a wifi controlled smoker, or a wifi controlled fridge, or, if I am, it's less than a dollar a month.

I'm certainly not saving money with a Peloton or a Roomba.
A broom costs 15 bucks. A roomba 700 ( and now they are introducing monthly fees ).
A Peleton 2500 ( plus monthly fees ). The streets around my house, free.

How long before my fridge and slow cooker are subscription based packages?

also....saves you time....to do...what? surf the internet more? eat more popcorn?

I also think there is a sense of accomplishment when tasks (even simple, mindless tasks) are completed that give people a sense of worth. I did that...I accomplished that. Even simple things build character, confidence and self value. If we rely on technology for every step of the process how much of that goes away? How much of our growing depression problem is centered around people feeling like they have no self worth.

It may be stupid....but mow the lawn, change a tire.....they are all things that, especially young people, need to grow skills, problem solving abilities and help with accomplishment/confidence.
