"Need both"
Tell that to Gonzaga.

Gonzaga: 1 final four ever.
No one plays to seed less than Gonzaga.

LOL, what? 1 win and Gonzaga is not the measuring stick for success? Jesus man, take your meds.

You all have different definitions of success.
For you it's NCAA tournament or nothing.
A 6 game single-elimination tournament does it all for you.

Got to have both types if you want success.
Actual results prove that to be a false statement.

If you had said 'you need both to win the NCAA tournament' then I'd be on board, though I'd argue Nova did it somewhat ( certainly no Wiggins types ).

Kansas has had 3 successful seasons under Bill Self and one of those may be taken away.

We also have a fanbase and program that is overly obsessed with winning the conference title every year.
If you're in the WCC, sure, rely on international players and Micah Downs transfers and do your thing. For KU, UK, UNC, etc., you better get a lot of NBA talent.

Every Bill Self season has been a success. The last unsuccessful season in KU history was 1988-1989*
*If not for that bogus NCAA penalty the last unsuccessful season would have been 1982-83

140-13 in last four years ( a recruiting cycle ).
12 NCAA tourney wins.
No 5 star recruits.
Better regular season and tourney record than KU in the same time period.
Significantly better if any wins are taken from 2018.

It's not worth bothering with you.
Anyone in their right mind would agree Gonzaga is a successful program.
You're just mad/stubborn you are wrong.

Gonzaga has a New York Yankees/LA Dodgers type setup in the WCC. Wichita State would have had the same if they stayed in the MVC.
The biggest spender in the little pond.

"Show me a successful program."
"OK, show me a successful program according to my very unique and particular qualifications that favor the Kansas's, Duke's, and other teams that meet said qualifications so I can prove my point."

gonzaga kicked our butt 6 days ago. They would likely kick it again today if we played.

Gonzaga isn't the measure of it. Nova is a better example.

Gonzaga is likely going to have non-con wins over Kansas, Baylor and West Virginia, the top 3 teams in the Big 12.

Go look at the list of Final Four participants over the last ten years. You don't need Top 20 recruits to have success.

That really has nothing to do with any argument I've made here. But, to your point, Mark Few would have more Final Fours than Bill Self if he just would have won 3 more of them.
Also, this does look like his best team, particularly because he gave the reins to a OAD blue chip PG that will be a Top 5 pick.
