He was piss poor on defense.
He failed in key possessions.
He was absolutely A problem.
He’s full meh. He’s making zero difference.
He’s laid off on defense ( yes, watch ). And then he is allowed to penetrate and misses his loft passes. He’s my biggest letdown — on par with Elmarko.
McCullar sucked today but my god has he improved.
KJ has improved.
Hunter DGAF but he’s a great offensive asset.
Ous is unfortunately right. Such a letdown from Harris so far.
No, the biggest problem was McCullar missing 13 shots.
I never said he was the reason we lost…just that he’s meh. Ous is wrong about a lot but he’s right our senior point just can’t be averaging 7 points a game, he just can’t.
Harris does absolutely nothing to win you games. He’s just there. Fine. A senior guard who is there who is a great passer and teams don’t have to worry about on offense and good but maybe not as good as he used to be defender.
OK?
At KU for a top 5 team that's just not gonna work.
That's fine with me I just wish
A. we didnt' sell out for dudes like Hunter in the process if it won't make a difference short term
and B. we didn't pretend like it's OK that Dajuan is playing at this level
He's just not playing as well as he should be at this stage of his career at KU if KU is going to be a top 5 team.
So...he's not playing well and we aren't a top 5 team.
All this said, i'm not swapping Harris with anyone else.
I think this ship gurgles around with albatross Hunter to a 2nd/3rd place B12 and a S16-e8.
I just way rather have done that with Udeh and Zuby and had them as juniors.
When was the last senior starter that was so meh? Landen Lucas played at worst equally as good as Harris—I might say better—and Harris is our point.
Has anyone averaged more assists per game than DH is this season during the Self era?
I think some of you are expecting DH to be something he's not (Frank or Devonte). If it is a requirement to have a 1st or 2nd team AA PG then Bill Self has been underperforming for a handful of years in a row. That's just not what DH is.
Thinking there is unlimited "ceiling" on a player is not realistic. 7pts 7ast 2reb is about DHs ceiling. If the players around him perform poorly offensively then we are going to lose.
We play 5 guys. If more than 1 or 2 play poorly we are going to lose. Today KM and Kj specifically played well below average.
I am okay living and dying with the 5 guys we've got this year. But losing in the S18 or E8 is definitely a possibility. So is winning it all.
And he’s one of the most overrated players that Self has had.
He got replaced by Sherron when it mattered.
We obviously can win it all with both guys—it’s more the lack of improvement. I expected him to be better—like possible 1st team B12 good. Top 10 PG in the country good.
And just take the layup Dajuan—who are you EJ vs Michigan?
Self hasn't been able to recruit a Sherron for DH unfortunately.
I wish we had Rob Dillingham on the team so that we had a lotto pick PG. High ceiling. Clutch shooter. Can just get his shot. Take and make tough shots (hero ball)...unfortunately Self seems to either not be able to attract the lotto pick PGs or prefers not to have an inexperienced and short term player in that position when building his rosters. I am not sure which. Or if it's a bit of both.
We are definitely a few players short of a "great team" this year. Thankfully there are no great teams in CBB, so we are absolutely in play to win another natty which is about all I care about during these last 6 or so years we get of Self.
It just feels like this is a low-floor, medium-ceiling team. And I think it comes down to roster construction and the perplexing guard issues (Harris getting worse; Jackson not being in the same room as the switch to his light; Morris obviously).
Suffice it to say it probably wasn’t the plan to need to squeeze Harris for 36mpg of meh - the plan was for him to get better again, and for other options to be available for when he’s meh.
Of course, I assume the plan also was for us to play competitive defense. It’s almost impressive to be as average as we are on defense when you have a collection of pieces of guys that really ought to add up to good team D.
