Women’s 4x200 was an insane race. ledecky almost got us gold.
I believe that got Forde’s kid a silver.
I knew his daughter is a swimmer but didn't know she was in the 4x200. Good for her!
From what I just read, the Australians (I am familiar with Titmus) were favored ("heavily"?) and settled for Bronze.
I guess the Chinese women may (must?) have had some Wuhan Lab juice injected in to them.

TV ratings a 33 year low.
Aren't the traditional TV ratings pretty obsolete in an event like this? Everyone knows Lee won gold this morning and it's not going to be broadcast until tonight. Ratings don't take into account how many people watch on a streaming service like Peacock, do they? You got that combined with people waking up to headlines of who won what, it takes away the interest of watching the broadcast.

Fun fact: I just discovered I work with Annie Lazor's brother. LOL. He literally sits within a stone's throw of me at my office. She swims for Gold tonight in the 200M Breaststroke...
I never put 2 and 2 together, nor has he ever been vocal about his sister (until today).

Without Simone Biles, U.S. women’s gymnastics seemed likely to end its gold-medal streak in the all-around competition. Instead, a new champion had her moment...

Catching up on the news, awesome.
She's easy to root for:
Lee is the first Hmong American to compete in the Olympics and is now the women's gymnastics all-around champion.
. . .
She's been marred by injuries, lost an aunt and uncle to Covid-19 and grappled with a horrific accident that left her father paralyzed.
In 2019, her father John was helping a neighbor trim a tree when he fell and became paralyzed from the waist down.
. . .
The father of six had supported Lee's gymnastics from the beginning -- helping her perform tricks around the house, sometimes to the frustration of her mother.
"I was always jumping on the bed or having my dad spot me while I was doing backflips and stuff like that," Lee told TwinCities.com. "Finally, my mom got tired of it" -- and that's when she enrolled in gymnastics.
But the family had limited means, so John Lee built a balance beam in the backyard for Suni to practice on, the father told NBC.
Just days after her father's devastating accident, Suni Lee made her senior debut at the US gymnastics championships -- competing in honor of her father.
At age 16, she defied expectations -- capturing the gold medal on uneven bars, the bronze on the floor exercise, and the silver in the all-around -- just behind Biles.
Now, at age 18, Lee joins an elite list of American Olympic all-around champions: Mary Lou Retton, Carly Patterson, Nastia Liukin, Gabby Douglas and Simone Biles.

That was fun.
I do, though, sort of like the idea of doing the PKs at the
start of extra time, with the winner being awarded a goal.

Shootouts are the great equalizer and sometimes you need some luck to advance. The US wasn't good enough to win that game head up. Their performance has been troublesome all tournament.

Opinoins on PKs seem to vary widely from person to person. I have always enjoyed them (both playing and watching). No complaints on keeping it how it is.

I thought they fought really hard and had 2 goals disallowed on close offsides calls.
NED was favored to win that game and the entire tournament.

I would keep extra time in soccer the way it is except make it golden goal in the two extras.
