Oh, gawd. Installing your roof sheathing on top of the shingle purlins is a nightmare. My heart goes out to you.

yes....yes it is. Particularly on a 9/12 roof. I'm gonna have to get creative on how to haul them up there, probably gonna have to be a rope show after the second row.
I thought about just infilling the skip sheathing with same thickness material but...I know that opens me up for waves and problems later on.

welp I put off the roof long enough thay I'm entering panic mode before the rainy season haha.
Buckled down the last 3 days got the rest of the roof stripped, hauled time the dump and new decking back on. Found a bunch of rot inhad to replace. Finished the last pieces of decking last night with a head lamp on. not ideal. gotta get the underlayment in it today after work before the rain arrives Wednesday. Half the roof is shingled now, the actual shingle install is the easy part.
According to my dump receipts I took fucking 26k pounds off that roof. Which....is insane, it's not a super big roof, like 16 squares, my house is only 1200 sf. Amazed the hand framed 2x4 trusses hadn't buckled at some point in the last 103 years under that much weight.

And that's the reason--old forest timber. BTW, 13 tons is a lot to pull off a small roof like that!!

Tell me you are wearing a fall protection harness. Even if you aren't.

the first side I wore my harness the whole time.
I damn near fell several times...and every damn time it was due to the stupid fucking rope getting tangled around my feet and wrapped in the air hose and being just a damn hazard.
so...now....I have the rope anchored at the ridge and laid out...and i use it to steady as I move across and always near me to grab but I don't wear the harness. not the smartest thing on a 9/12 pitch but it has felt safer...and im able to move oh so much more freely and quickly.....
I mean. yes japhy...im wearing fall protection....its just...modified and maybe not OSHA approved. the benefits of working on my own house....if it was a clients house I couldn't get away with it this way.

This whole story is remarkable for resilience if nothing else. Here in Texas this work is done by the great invading enemy who steal our jobs and live lives of desperate danger to spite us all. Laugh even.
