Kentucky for basketball.
South Dakota State for football.
Volleyball is Texas and Kansas State.

I'm with Illy here.
Kentucky is not our biggest rival.
It will always be MIZZOU.
You can't just disregard history.
We've played MIZZOU, what, over 200 more times than we have Kentucky?

since illy prefers to wear his ignorance like a badge of honor:
rival:
a person or thing competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity
misery doesn’t check either box, and it’s a huge stretch to call what statie does “competitive” (201-94)
yet you double down on dumb and say they are our only rivals? seriously?

"rival: a person or thing competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity"
It fits.
We just own the rivalry.

Until Jeff Long's dumb idea, the move to the SEC is what really killed off the rivalry.
We have played UK so much more in the last decade. Bigger stakes, too.

ku and misery don’t even compete for the same thing/s anymore
you’re holding onto something that is long-gone

In that same sense, nor does Kentucky and KU.

I'm mostly excited for CB and Dajuan, but personally looking much more forward to the UK, Baylor and Texas games.
Time to play someone with a pulse and mizzou ain't it.

The Chiefs biggest rivals are the Tampa Bay Bucs!

we’ll just have to agree to disagree
imo, baylor is a bigger rival for KU now than either statie or misery…and it’s not even close

They are historical rivals sure and KU is definitely MU and KSU's rivals (add ISU to that list) but they really aren't our rivals in any real sense of the term. If your definition of "rival" is just "a program in close proximity that it means a little more to beat" then sure, you're right. But neither program is really our rival from a competitive standpoint.
I'd put Kentucky, Baylor and Texas on my list of rivals right now.

Mizzou is much more of a rival at the university level. Proximity, scholarship programs and graduate programs competing for students, alumni working together or against each other, similar schools and similarly ranked, KC vs. STL, Kansas City tax incentive wars, then all the historical civil war stuff.
That has permeated into sports, obviously, but when you don't play and one program sucks, it loses the juice.

We compete against Kentucky for recruits, national attention and Final Fours. None of those things involve Mizzou or KSU.

And the hatred for each others' fan bases and coaches have been very intense since Cal took the job. It's fun having Cal and Self at the helm at the same time.

UKs rival is Louisville, not KU.

By this logic then KSU is not a KU rival. You're all twisted up.
Texas has always had two rivals, but the OU one heated up to the biggest after aTm bolted.

I don't personally require both sides of a rivalry to consider it a rivalry. ISU probably considers us their second largest rivalry behind Iowa but KU doesn't consider ISU a rival at all. A win over Iowa is the only win they feel is more important than a win over Kansas.
How important do KU fans feel a win over Mizzou or KSU are? The only reason I consider a win over Mizzou important is because losing to such a terrible team means KU has some serious issues. Is it extra fun to break Mizzou's heart? Sure.
But we're just arguing semantics.

The Mizzou game ceased being a rivalry when they left the conference. If they were a national power competing against us for recruits, relevance, etc... then maybe it would have stayed a rivalry but they just aren't. They are irrelevant in the sport and this is just a game to have some kicking a former rival while they are down.
