(It’s been over 15 years since we lost in the first round.)

How sweet if we just rattled off like 5 of 9 Final Fours and another natty before Bill starts thinking about retirement.
I didn't a year ago after watching 74-60, 95-79, 89-75 and 85-51 but now I'm starting to feel otherwise. Moments can change people and it seems like Self's personality/coaching style have changed recently. He seems more relaxed than he used to and hopefully that rubs off on his teams. Tournament is always fickle but I will not be surprised is the next 10 seasons are Self's most successful post season years.
2020 fucks the narrative so bad.

More likely than not, we would now be sitting on three final fours in five years. And there’s a very good chance (as these things go) that there would be two titles in that time.

But I thought that was gonna happen after 08...then uni and vcu happened

I thought we were in the midst of one of those runs in 16, 17, and 18....I mean we shoulda made 3 straight F4s and added a title or two....
Well we did really choke some things away after ‘08, but still, you knew that Roy, K, and Cal were going to be big factors in that time. Not true now.

Which probably comes with the territory when you're favored to win nearly every game. As well as having such a crazy fanbase that is so large/supportive. The players care and want to do well so badly that it can occasionally result in tightness. It's a lot easier said than done to "play freely".
Remergy was the cure.

Also....winning may actually be the cure.

winning begets winning.

I would guess there's 6 guys Bill would say that about.

The "took me some time to figure it out" part is very Remy-specific and why I posted it.

Agree that he would say the first part about 6-7 guys.

I think it took Remy some time to figure it out more than it took Self time to figure it out - but that's Self talk for you. He always says the right thing.

He actually said both. Only a clip of what he said was posted.

It’s both. They were great for each other.

Such a cool dynamic to see both player AND coach learn from each other.

Perfect storm this year. What a ride.

Great season.

He came up big in the end.
He wasnt the season long factor like we thought.
It gives a mixed bag when it comes to what you want to call legacy.

But the offensive spark off the bench no doubt gave us what we needed in two very important games in the tournament when we needed it.

Impact this season, in my opinion, cascades as:

Ochai
Braun
Dmac
Jalen
Harris
Remy

But all of them important.

Ochai B12 POY. 1st team AA.
Braun a stud. Maybe shoulda been B12 1st team.
DMac FF MOP, played all season with a foot injury. Best overall stats in the six NCAA tournament games.
Jalen came on strong in 22. One of our best in conference play.
Close between Remy and Harris but Harris was there all season while Remy struggled through more than half.

"Legacy" is an interesting word. If anything, Remy's ultimate legacy is probably improved by the narrative arc of his season/contributions; it's the inverse of "coulda been."

The Remy legacy changed a ton due to the tournament. As it should.

But it is sort of revisionist history to say injuries were the sole reason for his struggles. They weren't. Even before them when he was putting up good numbers it was clear he was struggling to fit in and make the team better. He could get his, but not within the flow and structure of what we do. On both ends of the court.

Partly on Remy. Partly on Self.

But in the end, his legacy is defined by being a national champion. As it should be. We don't win it without him.
