wait, your point is that Silver should eliminate cash compensation and just give NBA players scholarships from now on?

but dude, again!
amateurism never WAS a thing
it's been about these (de facto) professional teams borrowing a school's identity and brand for a LONG time all along
either that, or show me some athletic director or conference commissioner or whatever who's turned down some billion dollar media deal just to keep the sport pure.
or some coach who rejected a multi-million dollar contract cuz who wants to make coaching about money?

You just argued my point for me.
Not sure if that was your intention.
I am not sure if it was my intention either.

The NBA age rule has always been about NBA teams mitigating risks with their first round picks, wanting to see these young players play against a higher caliber of opponent and working with a higher caliber of coach before drafting them. The extra year gave them more opportunities to avoid drafting a bust. They must feel that the success of the G-League etc... now helps them mitigate that risk enough that they are willing to move it back down to 18.

wait, so your point is that you'd rather have college players getting less money under the table, than more money on it?

not sure this was a good analogy then, and not sure this is a good analogy now.
what if people were going more than 40 all along, and you just didn't know about it, cuz they were making a point to do it behind your back?
that's how this comes across: you couldn't care less how fast people are really going, as long as you don't have to hear about it. But as soon as the traffic laws are amended to reflect the realities of traffic, you clutch pearls.
but enough about that angle. Instead, let's go full Q!

I'm bitching about them raising the speed limit to 80 from 25 because people were going 40 in a zone that probably should have been 30.
cuz another interpretation suggests this analogy is arguing in favor of some kind of price controls, rather than just let the free market fingerblast us with its invisible hand?
to that, Qusdahl asks: why only for student ath-o-lete markets then?
why not healthcare markets and energy markets and housing markets and all the other things too?

so you're arguing for
1. making 8-lane highways a speed limit of 35
and
2. wanting to "maintain amateurism" even thought the Supreme Court unanimously ruled otherwise.
?

Have you paid attention to his antics this season? He's pissed a lot of people off this summer lol

The injury train gets moving early for Chet Holmgren. Sounds like he might have torn some ligaments while trying to challenge LeBron at a charity event. Oops. That's barely a good idea in an NBA regular season game, let alone a meaningless summer game.

Now being reported that Holmgren will miss the entire season due to a Lisfranc injury to his right foot. Bummer, would have been interesting to see how he does at the NBA level. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a regular thing but the body just isn't meant to support being 7 feet tall.

oof, rough for the young man, and foot issues for a 7-footer before ever playing an NBA game doesn't bode well, does it.

Sucks for him but probably a blessing in disguise for OKC. Getting another Top 3 pick next season is a dream scenario.

There aren't very many 7 footers who, with our without muscle, are able to avoid foot or back problems. Our bodies just aren't designed to handle that size and those two body parts are already prone to injury.
