I'll put myself out there with an actual take - if Scott Drew is coach at Kentucky they don't get to the second weekend for at least two seasons.

This is so win-win.
Either Drew goes to uk and we get to watch him suck there, or he turns it down and uk get…who, exactly?

Because a private Baptist university is so different from a flagship public one.
Yea.
Not to mention being the coach in a smallish town in a state that hardly even knows what hoops is, is a little different than being at a blue blood in a state that hardly knows anything beyond hoops
It’s like taking an astronaut trained for Venus missions and asking him to jump on a rocket to Mars. The jobs are somewhat similar…and functionally incomparable.

Fuck it, takes are cheap.
I’ll say, he gets to an E8 with Cal’s leftovers and the future looks bright, til he goes like 1-4 the next few tourneys including an NIT face plant

But then again, Steve nash, Jason kidd, and Steve kurr all started as nba head coaches I think
for someone who carries themselves to be so smart and informed, particularly about the nba, one might think you’d be able to spell names correctly

Except, what exactly are Cal’s leftovers at UK?

Reed and Dillingham are very likely gone.
Reeves and Mitchell are seniors - dunno anything about COVID years for them.
DJ Wagner and Justin Edwards could be too.
Bradshaw is transferring.
Knox decommitted.
So that would leave Adou Theiro as your best returning player with 7 PPG.
And then 5 top 100 recruits who, once they heard the Scott Drew news, might bounce too.

This is not accidental.

UK is either gonna go with Beard (and pray), or make a run at Underwood, or make a dumb splash hire. They will not debase themselves with Pope, even though they probably should.

Shit, Scott Drew gonna get paid enough to say no to Kentucky.
Beard would be fine I think as long as he behaved himself...but he seems to be in the Huggins/Bobby Knight kind of zone.
Underwood would be kind of a letdown for them i'd expect.
Bruce Pearl is also an option.

Personally, I’d be all over Hoiberg at this point.

Or the current Iowa State coach instead of the previous.
Guy turned a bunch of low end recruits and transfers into maybe the best defensive team in the nation.

Either way.
Hoiberg played the transfer game spectacularly BEFORE the portal.

Here's the menu of the spot that rich booster is taking Scott to.
