OFFICIAL DEBATE DRINKING THREAD
Re: OFFICIAL DEBATE DRINKING THREAD
One candidate is a convicted felon.
One candidate stands behind hate as their platform promoting xenophobia ( immigrants are murdering and raping ) and racism ( Proud Boys are good people ) and generally uses negativity as their base.
One candidate ( and this is the /endthread here ) tried to overthrow the Democratic process through multiple avenues including not organizing a strong enough police force at the Capital, turning on the man who would validate the election, and then urging his supporters to fight like hell and when they did, just sat there, and continues to state the election was stolen ( and threatened a bloodbath if results didn't go his way again this election ) when there is no evidence of this anywhere.

He seems like a fairly likable fellow who has been around the basketball program for a while and clearly loves it.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 7:16 am Poor Greg Gurley. What did he do to get dragged into this!
He's also a pretty bad choice to go against a guy who, while fairly shitty in the grand scheme of things ( cheater/G leaguer ), has a shot at winning. While Gurley understands basketball very well he just isn't in the state in his life to play it anymore.

This is why I only rarely open your "Questions" threads, when I'm really bored.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 6:59 amWhich one is less awful? What specifically makes them awful? I'm asking because there are different factors that make them awful - and those different factors are going to be the difference maker/s in which guy gets elected.
I'm not expecting you to give me an answer to my 2nd question.
Here is a question I think about too often. What percentage of voters will be voting because they are voting AGAINST someone more than they are voting FOR someone?

Maybe they’re both good but we actually need someone older
Re: OFFICIAL DEBATE DRINKING THREAD
I'd put these as my most important issues that need to be tackled pronto:
1. Lobbyists/special interest groups able to spend money to influence candidate choice
2. Loopholes for the ultra-wealthy to not pay a larger % of tax than the rest of the US
Focus on those things and this is where I think trickle down ( not economics but just general policy ) would work.
1 is largely the reason we have the choices we do today.
2 is what's causing a major divide in America.

The last choice.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 6:53 am What would be your preferred path for this thing:
Biden to stay in the race and try to defeat Trump?
Biden to stay in the race and try to defeat Trump and then step down in the first year of his 2nd term?
Biden to step aside now and let someone else take on Trump?
I think it'd be the middle one for me. I think running him is a risk, but it's also a risk to try to replace him at this stage in the game. Like PDub said, dems should have been honest with us (and him) and we should have had a dozen or so choices to start sifting through 24 months ago.
Barring something dramatic happening, Biden can't beat Trump after the damage he did to his candidacy last night. America has already demonstrated that ~ 50% of them have a high tolerance for being lied to and led by a malignant narcissist who cares more about himself than he does about them or our country. Biden's candidacy was struggling even before the debate - the polls were already 50/50, if not leaning a little toward Trump.
We need to cut our losses and move to someone else who might have chance to save our republic.

So the party just chooses without any input from the populous?
The only thing that would make sense would be Kamala Harris if that's the case - a resignation from Biden - and I don't know if that option is better than fumbling Biden at this point ( maybe??? ).

No one is arguing it would be ideal. But, when the boat is sinking, what are you going to do?pdub wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 7:53 am "We need to cut our losses and move to someone else who might have chance to save our republic."

Certainly, a vigorous primary process would be much preferable. That being said, unlike more recently, many, many times in the past the die was not cast before the parties held their conventions and the (admittedly elected thru the primary process) delegates had vote after vote after vote to reach a decision on a nominee. It was the so frequently criticized "smoke filled rooms" scenario where candidates with lesser numbers of delegates made deals with representatives of candidates with more delegates and the winnowing process eventually resulted in a nominee.
That being said, it would require that Biden be willing to relinquish his delegates to start the process. Because at this point, he has the delegates, which makes him the nominee.

Re: OFFICIAL DEBATE DRINKING THREAD
Kamala seems to make a certain logical sense, in the sense Dems should be pushing Biden for a resignation like 6 months ago.
But she’s also a pretty awful candidate too. Might as well just march Hillary back out there.

Re: OFFICIAL DEBATE DRINKING THREAD
Too bad Obama can't run again, he would have wiped the floor with Trump in a debate. Joe Biden was just awful, like a deer in the headlights half the time. Stumbled on so many questions, looked lost, confused and mumbled through most of the debate.

Yeah, that was pretty good. Kudos to whoever told Joey to say that.
But..... I can/will counter by saying, Said the guy who loves and defends his child (admirable) - who was still married when he began fucking the wife of his dead brother (NOT admirable). That equates to the morals of a........?????

That's a very weak counter.

Re: OFFICIAL DEBATE DRINKING THREAD
Yes, it is a weak counter - being that one guy was the President (not President when it happened - but was the President) and one guy is the President's son.
Like I said, I'm just sayin'.
No doubt morally Donald Trump is miles worse than Joe Biden.

Gutter's cycling through his "both sides", conflate anything to appear "fair and neutral", contrarian phase, again.

Yes.
But I might edit your post to say....
Gutter cycling through his both sides suck (TO DIFFERENT DEGREES - but still suck) phase, conflate anything to appear "UNfair and NOT neutral", contrarian (or conforming) phase/s - still.

What's "need" have to do with it? And I definitely "deserve" it!Shirley wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 9:54 pmYour joking aside...
When Republicans in general and especially candidates like Trump are elected, chosen by Americans, and I find myself wanting to find a tall building with windows, I often try to console myself by thinking: "Hey, Republicans have policies that people like you benefit from, i.e., they cut taxes for people like you who don't need or deserve it, so be happy about that, not suicidal because society in general is going to suffer."
It never works. I remain nearly suicidal.

CNN flash poll says 67% thought Trump won the debate.
That’s huge.
