I'm not but I will argue that there is a HUGE difference between cattle being "inhumanly" "slaughtered" for consumption and someone taking their gun and shooting a living being FOR FUN.

Right - I keep throwing out the "for fun" (and "pleasure") thing out there.
Wrong - I didn't mean to imply that I feel "all" hunters, ranchers, and sport shooters sole purpose in shooting a living being is/was for "fun"/"pleasure" - nor do I feel they are "all" assholes.
I'll try to explain myself again. I feel if someone shoots a living thing for "fun" and/or they "take pleasure" in killing that living being, - then they are an asshole for doing as such - no matter how you or anyone else wan't/s to define their activity. Unfortunately my simple sentiment seems to be more complicated than I intended it to be.
I'm just stating my personal feeling/s. I assume you and others feel differently. If so, terrific.

Not too many use guns to put bullets in to the fish.
Are the people fishing doing it for food to feed themselves and/or others? Then no, I don't think/feel they are assholes.
Are the people fishing doing it and throwing the fish back in to the body of water? Then no, I don't think/feel they are assholes.
Are the people fishing doing it because they enjoy killing fish that they will not eat? Then yes, I do think/feel they are assholes.

As much as I may dislike hunting, I'm not going to find fault in people who do it for food but I am going to find fault in their taking enjoyment in killing the animal.
Sorry, I'm just being honest and transparent with my feelings.

i actually tend to agree with you on much of that, but was really just curious as to your thoughts on fishing

the only “hunters” i take issue with are those that do it for sport or trophies. even if the animal is consumed, there’s still a part of me that questions the need to mount the heads/racks as some sort of proof of manliness

it’s just an odd thing to me, and i think speaks to a greater, more general moral issue of the idea that Man is the ultimate species, and all others (plant or animal) are merely resources for our use

and i admit my hypocrisy on this particular example. it’s meaningless justification, but i try to do as much as i can to reduce the trauma to fish (barbless hooks, minimizing both fight time and time out of the water). but, i’ve got no issue with someone calling me an a-hole regardless of those measures

for me, it’s less about catching fish than it is spending time on the water and out in nature (i hike/camp much more than i fish). i enjoy my time on the water just as much if i catch a little 4-5 incher versus a 15 incher.

yea and chimps and gorillas can use tools...so, its a blurred line somewhere along the way.

I know lots of people today that can't use tools. But they can post on Facebook....so...I dunno where the line is but I'd probably rather hang out with a Chimp.
