of course we are apes. what else could we be. watch the gorillas and chimps at the zoo (or wherever else if you are so lucky) for 20 minutes and it is undeniably obvious.
plus, my kid will eat bananas for every meal if we'd let him. So...yea...confirmed.

I'm constantly correcting my kids with the difference between Ape and Monkey....drives my wife crazy...but..its an important distinction I think.
of course I'm the same guy that does that with Cement vs Concrete too. Also drives the wife crazy but I cannot let it go. Cement is a fucking component of Concrete...it is Not concrete. They are not the same thing....no, it's not "same difference".

I'm the same way with barbecue vs grilling. They ain't the same and I'm overly sensitive about it.
I'm probably guilty of the concrete cement thing.

i completely agree...words and their definitions matter
there are other distinctions obviously, but the first one i was taught (and the easiest i think to remember), is tail or no tail

So which end does he open first - the stalk end or the blossom end? Trust me, there’s a difference- one is way easier than the other. All monkeys and most apes do it the easy way.
Also no self respecting ape would eat a partially ripe banana (ie. it’s still green) - they wait until it’s actually sweet and evidenced by dark spots on the skin

I open them for him but ive always opened the opposite end of the stalk and been called weird for it...I dunno which is right

That’s the “correct” end - at least that’s how monkeys, apes and people where bananas are native eat it. It’s also the most convenient way to open a banana.

interesting...I've always been told I'm the odd one for that. But it always seemed to me that stem was a natural handle to hold while you peeled and cut or eat or whatever.

How do you open it from that end? There's nowhere to grip to be able to rip the skin on that end.

the skin splits into 4 parts super easy at that end. I just grab a section and peel

i’ll have to give that method a go, just out of curiosity
it seems like it would be easier to start the peel with the stem

You do much less damage to the banana when peeling from the blossom end rather than the stem end and it's easier. It's kinda the way the banana wants to be peeled.

Chiquita espouses non-stem end peel, so it must be the right way

A U.S. Capitol police officer was arrested Friday for obstruction of justice charges related to communications with another man later criminally charged for participation in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot by Trump supporters.

Riley, who had never communicated directly with the man previously, wrote, "Hey ... im a capitol police officer who agrees with your political stance," the indictment says.
