A video went viral on Monday showing a woman holding a Confederate flag at a Black Lives Matter protest in Missouri and telling demonstrators, “I will teach my grandkids to hate you all.”

The 37-second video shows the woman in an apparent confrontation with a Black Lives Matter supporter while she is sitting on a truck in the parking lot of Dixie Outfitters in Branson, Mo., on Sunday, the Springfield News-Leader reported....

.... The woman, who identified herself as Kathy Bennett of Branson to the newspaper, was sporting a camouflage “Make America Great Again” hat when she addressed protesters, saying “I’ll teach them to f---ing hate all of you.”

“I will teach my grandkids to hate you all,” she said in the clip that has more than 3.9 million views on Twitter.

The woman followed up by saying, “Suck on this” as she draped the Confederate flag over herself. She then turned around, made a fist and said, “KKK belief.”

Apparently, athletes are saying they aren't participating until the dude is suspended/expelled.

Granted, Kansas State does not currently have any activities happening because of an outbreak of COVID linked to the football team and Aggieville.

In other words, reality is slapping the capital of Western Kansas hard this week.

Yes, there's a code of ethics at each that would give the school ammo. There's a long line of 1st Amendment case law which state that schools aren't totally powerless over their students when it comes to speech and it can even go beyond the campus door.

edit: BUT, if he were expelled, there's at least a 1A question. It would go to court. There are disagreeing opinions about where it would land. Public universities aren't treated the same as public high schools. The group that would normally fight hard for the student's position: the ACLU.

BTW, this guy is a piece of work and wants to be a provocateur and a martyr. He's going to be a headache if you expel him, and he's not going to stop if you keep him. I feel bad for KSU here. They are in a no-win situation.

So then from a perspective of should they expel him, vs the previous question of could they, I have a problem with that. If public universities aren't a place for free speech, then I don't know what is, no matter how repulsive that speech is (as long as it's not directly inciting violence of course).

I can’t disagree. I mean, I’m a lawyer with a journalism degree, 1A might as well be on my headstone.

I gotta say that, though, there are principled reasons here for expulsion if you’re Kansas State. If the last month has taught us anything, it’s that people are absolutely enraged about the powers sitting back and doing nothing.
