I looked at a project yesterday. It is a single family residence, we typically shy away from those for liability reasons. In this case I will embrace, for revenue reasons.
This new residence is in Beverly Hills. The architect is a Brit "baron" and he previously designed the world's largest cock-ring in Cupertino. No idea who the Owner of this residence will be yet. Gutter likely knows them, cuz he's gutter.
They/them bought about $100M worth of existing residences/real estate to provide a suitable buffer around the house and to clear an unsightly 20,000 sf residence that cluttered their view. All of the existing residences, there are seven by my count, will be demolished to make room for the new residence. New residence will be about 75,000 plus sf and best first guess is the residence will cost around $100M.
So someone is in process of spending around 1/4 billion$ to relocate numerous mere millionaires to create their odd castle with the obligatory 25 car garage for a car collection. There is stupid money and then there is really stupid money.
You can decide where this falls within the parameters of your own value system.
First thoughts when I saw the design, "this looks like an "old school" Safeway store from the 50's -60's".
I was told; that in meetings with the design team, I should keep that thought inside my head.
But I think old Safeway stores are cool. I would be happy to build a secret supervillain lair inside one and live there.

We went to the original Meow Wolf in Santa Fe over a decade ago. I loved the concept of a plan. It's likely why, when offered a movie theater and a MorValu store in 2019 I said, "fuck yeah!".
Vegas is a great location for them. The thought of being in Vegas makes me cringe and at the same time I always revel in the idea of Vegas as a city. Once there I just like walking around at night, watching people. Now that they have legal weed I am more inclined to go and wander around very high, just cuz. It could be a Hunter S. Thompson/Fear and Loathing visit now.
If you haven't seen their origin story I highly recommend it. A rags to riches to WTF are we doing? story.
We will be sitting down at Art Coffee tomorrow with an artist who is new to Solstice to discuss the opportunities in the Empire. He talked to a couple of artists who installed work there last summer and he is intrigued. It helps that MCA Denver has us on their radar now, that exposure can be good for artists. But we do have to be careful. We are not sure that comparisons to Marfa are good.
