Lake. Teach her to build a fire with needles and brush. Tin foil dinner.
Never too early to start teaching her to save dryer lint to use an an accelerant!

Have fun!
rub with Vaseline, store in pill bottle or film canister to keep dry. Or rub with Vaseline, stuff in toilet paper roll, seal with paraffin wax and cut slices when ready for use
How many people here even know what a film canister is, much less have one - I still have several? I used to have them in my car filled with coins (quarters mainly) for tolls when I lived in Connecticut

Sixty, London or SLS. I believe all have basic-class rooms with balconies, but memories aren't always reliable. Whether those fit the price point will depend on dates/events/etc.

"Humble brag" or not, I don't want to spend anywhere near $650 a night - but it's not cheap to stay in that area and most of the nice hotels want significantly more than that a night.
Fucking airfare is $1000 to fly coach. It's insanity!

Thanks Fish!
All good suggestions/possibilities that I have given a look at in the past.
I'm not opposed to the places I mentioned in my NOTs but the Bev Hilton doesn't have availability unless I want to attend the Golden Globes (and pay for it), Century Plaza seems dead to me compared to how it used to be before they renovated it and hosted Rose Bowl teams, Cameo is old Mr. C and I have read bad things about it recently - including it's in "Jewhood" and there is always the potential for protesters, and I am indifferent about the Sofitel - just doesn't excite me.

ha, good question, didn't even think about that. I guess I'm old. I have/had many, they're great little storage containers for various things, although I think they've been pared down to pretty much only storing Firestarter in my camping/hunting/truck emergency bags now that I think about it.

Just yanking your chain, that sucks. Hope you have a good time with spending all that jack.

I get vertigo when I look out and only see human development. I usually enjoy LA area for a couple days, then time to get out.

Plenty of places to go to not see only human development - but no doubt way too much human development to be seen.

Oh I’m sure l, Gutter. I don’t hate LA at all, nor am I super familiar with it. But it’s a mass (mess) of humanity more so than other big population centers, for its sheer sprawl.

I’d love to fly in, eat KBBQ and get out.

I want to go to Chicago for Tits-Bears game week one. But it’s taste of Chicago and everything is extra-super expensive at first glance.

Imma need your couch, gutter.

I have no particular need to go back.

I don’t mind the sprawl any more than I mind the crush of humanity in NYC - it’s just part of the whole deal. Very important to understand that visiting all of LA in a weekend (or even a week) is no more realistic than visiting all of NYC in that same time. Just for different reasons.

But I do very, very much mind the fakeness and transience of LA. It’s just a highly non-genuine place, full of highly non-genuine people, and it’s just an environment I have no desire to be a part of.

Ugly is ugly.

But yeah, the crush of humanity is real. I don’t feel it in large city centers like NYC and Chicago the same way I do in LA.

Yeah, the substantive difference is that there are many places in LA where you are legitimately a two (or more!) hour drive from actual open spaces.
