Yeah man, he looked great last year, definitely should be confident in what he'll bring night in and night out.

2 bigs ain't happening, unless Clemence looks like a 2022 or 23 first round draft pick.

What’s the most mpg a big has played under Self?

I see TRob at 31. Dedric at 32.

Has anyone played more?

I think he can get up to 27-28.
And he was our most effective player per minute last season.
Yes.

Those hoping Dave isn't a main focal point of our offense are going to be disappointed when games start and he's getting touches every possession and one of our leading scorers.

Can't tell if that's sarcasm ( i'm guessing it is ).

Led the B12 in FG% at 53.6.
Was our leading scorer in conference play at 14.2 PPG.
5th in blocks per game, 2nd in offensive rebounds, 9th in total rebounds.
Voted as the most improved player for 2020-21.
Only returning player to make an All Big 12 team.

It's fun when you just eliminate half the season to make your point. Also, being the lone big on the entire roster and still only finishing 9th in total rebounds in the conference isn't the brag you think it is.

You can pretend you're confident when he catches it on the block and starts spazzing. It's your life.

BasketballJayhawk wrote: Thu Sep 30, 2021 12:59 pm Jalen is not big/strong enough to be a 5 imo...that's a losing strategy for us. Especially defensively. It's also not the position he wants to play and if he has any pro aspirations i am guessing he'd like to get a chance to play a more natural position as a wing/stretch 4.
It would be for a few minutes a game. We'll have more than a dozen different lineups throughout games this year.

Even if you don't eliminate half the season, he shot 13.4 PPG at 52%.
Compare to our 2nd leading scorer, Agbaji, at 14.1, 42%.

DMac struggled out of the gate -- he and Self both admit that.
He was our best player January through March.

Yeah, dok was dominant but such a liability at the line

But yeah, Simien makes sense. Throwback.

Speaking of, who’s better: Mitch Lightfoot, or Christian Moody?

It's September 30th. We'll find out in a few months. MPG arguments are the worst.

Against ranked opponents and in the tournament:

13 ppg, 6 rpg, 49% from the field

Fine, not good, certainly not consistent. He'll get the ball a ton because Bill Self is the coach, but that's also sort of the problem.

Fair point....but nobody mentions that when talking about how Jalen is the best rebounder ever because of his rebounds per game....even though i can think of a handful of better rebounders we've had as our 4 during the Self era.

Ah yes, no need to consider how he played against elite, out-of-conference opponents. We don't play any of those this season.

A knock against DMac of course is staying on the court -- and he definitely needs to time rebounds much better this season -- but per 40 minutes, Jalen and DMac's rebounds are almost exactly the same ( 11.1 vs 10.7 ). In 2013, Withey's rebounding numbers were 11.0 per 40 minutes.
