I am extremely confident Obama attends/attended church more often than Trump, Obama can recite more bible passages than Trump, and I am also confident God would feel Obama is "more" (and a "better") Christian than Trump is.

He was/is a follower of Jeremiah Wright, who is a purveyor of a mishmash of Black nationalism and socialism with a few Bible verses mixed in for palatability. His “God damn America” speech tells you everything you need to know.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 4:13 pmHe's absolutely Christian. What does that have to do with Obama being Christian or not? If anything, that probably makes him more Christian.
I have listened to Wright's speech. Much of it was factual. Much of it was his being pissed off that our country's government shit on Black people.
What about his speech tells me everything I need to know?
I don't have a problem with facts and Black people being pissed off for being persecuted.

I’m not here to convince you to like Ramaswamy. I was just trying to explain why people who dislike Obama and like him are not hypocrites.

Around and around and around we go. Seems you are not comprehending me - and I partially to blame - for not being clear with what I am trying to convey.
Oh well, let's move along.
As far as your feelings about Obama, I'm not sure what he did and didn't do to make you think/feel he's a horrible person and think/feel he was a worse POTUS.
I may or may not agree with you - and I am not going to criticize you for your feeling/thinking that way - without knowing your reasons.

DEI? FFS, now you want to casually say that DEI is "basically the same thing as Affirmative Action"?
Re: Vivek ramaswamy
Then disqualify every regular American who has learned their spirituality from a member of the Church who did horrible things or who aided in having horrible priests moved quietly off to prey on new communities. Apply your same logic that you apply to Obama to every other US Citizen. Are you calling them "not Christians"?JKLivin wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 4:39 pmHe was/is a follower of Jeremiah Wright, who is a purveyor of a mishmash of Black nationalism and socialism with a few Bible verses mixed in for palatability. I typically start out liking people and continue to like them until they give me a reason not to like them. Sounds pretty normal to me. I'd have thought that someone who favors a more self-centered style of government would support that methodology.JKLivin wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 8:55 pmIf memory serves, he had no problem with Wright until it became politically expedient to do so.twocoach wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 8:53 pmThen disqualify every regular American who has learned their spirituality from a member of the Church who did horrible things or who aided in having horrible priests moved quietly off to prey on new communities. He’s free to like whoever he likes. It’s the ideology, which I assume is what drew him to Wright’s church in the first place, with which I take issue.twocoach wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 9:00 pmI typically start out liking people and continue to like them until they give me a reason not to like them. Yes, you assume. The facts of the matter are that he knew the Obamas from the late 1980s but did not start being controversial until he gave a heated sermon the first Sunday after 9/11 and then again a few years later. Oh, have you actually READ any of his controversial sermons? They read like an accumulation of YOUR posts. In a sermon titled "Confusing God and Government":JKLivin wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 9:11 pmHe’s free to like whoever he likes. "[The United States] government lied about their belief that all men were created equal. The truth is they believed that all white men were created equal. The truth is they did not even believe that white women were created equal, in creation nor civilization. The government had to pass an amendment to the Constitution to get white women the vote. Then the government had to pass an equal rights amendment to get equal protection under the law for women. The government still thinks a woman has no rights over her own body, and between Uncle Clarence who sexually harassed Anita Hill, and a closeted Klan court, that is a throwback to the 19th century, handpicked by Daddy Bush, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, between Clarence and that stacked court, they are about to undo Roe vs. Wade, just like they are about to un-do affirmative action. The government lied in its founding documents and the government is still lying today. Governments lie."
That's from 2003. ALL of it has now played out to have been 100% true. And no one beats the "government's lie" thing here more than you. Maybe you're a big proponent of Wright's ideology and didn't even know it. OH, that's right, he shined a light on how much the government has lied about black Americans being "equal" under the eyes of the law. That's when he went "too radical" for you.

Good post twocoach! I posted some of the same yesterday but your post is much better than mine.

I stand by my contention that politics has no place in the church. Politicized religion is no longer religion, and, yes, I believe that to be true of conservative churches telling their congregants to picket abortion clinics and to vote for conservative candidates, too. Tellingly, when the Pharisees tried to lure Jesus into a political diatribe, he simply responded "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and unto God that which is God's." Sounds about right to me.twocoach wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2023 9:54 amYes, you assume. VGR's religion should not matter. His crazed, Trumpian ideas do matter. And are disqualifying.

Jeremiah Wright, the Pharisees, Jesus, and Obama, all made it in to the Vivek Ramaswamy thread.

I don’t want to be that guy who quotes his own post. However, this is a very apropos finding. Here’s the US team which competed in the recently concluded International Chemistry Olympiad: Mingwen Dian (CT), Alice Liu (MO), Anurag Sodhi (MD), Phoenix Wu (TX), Sebastian Kumar (WA) and Brian Li (MA). Two Indian Americans, three Chinese Americans and one likely Chinese (maybe Vietnamese).
