He's attempted 223 three pointers in his career.

It's no longer a limited sample size.
does that count his redshirt year too?

I kid. But for real, 223 over 4 years is about 56 a year.

let's compare that to other KU guards in as many seasons:

Devon Dotson 214 in 2 seasons, average 107 a season

Devonte Graham 723 over 4, about 181 average

BIFM 440 over 4, so 110 average

Tharpe 242 over 3, avg about 80

Elijah 430 over 4, avg 107

Tyshawn 324 over 4 average 81

Sherron 615 over 4 average 153

Russ 296 over 4, average 74

in other words, Dajuan doesn't come close to any of our other guards. Russ is the next closest, and he was just one of 3 really good guards in those teams' rotations. Next is Tharpe, who everybody thought sucked, even tho his stats are so similar to Dajuans. Next is Tyshawn and Devon, who were more slashers (Elijah too but I don't remember him as quite such a slasher)

and without having the time to do it right now, I dunno how much total starts and total minutes played factors out either, but I bet his attempts per minutes played aren't good either.

Is your point that he's not as good as devonte sherron frank dotson and tyshawn?

Insightful.

His inability and unwillingness to shoot had Arkansas basically standing a guy in the middle of the lane whenever KJ caught the ball up top.

I thought for sure he'd come into this season willing to shoot from a step behind the free throw line to keep defenses from sagging onto HD.
Yes. KJ is a major liability for us. Despite how athletic he is, and all he does well, not being able to shoot handicaps this team immensely. KJ has been around awhile and is well scouted. The way Arkansas guarded him is exactly the way every team will guard him all season. They did it last season, and IMO is a big factor in why we were so shitty last year

He is already a good player.
I'd be content with dajuans current skillset, with a more athletic body. He's a really good college player. Just think what he would be like if he had some explosiveness

The Arkansas game has me much more concerned about Mayo and Storr than Juan and KJ

They didn't look good. They have no clue how to operate within bills offensive sets yet. It's early tho, they'll learn. They are both talented players who will look muchhhhhhhh better than that moving forward

I agree with the second half of your post...but we didn't run any "bill self sets" in that pick up game

Well just our offense in general is new to him. New to all our transfers. They are adjusting to a new coach and new style of play and learning how to implement their games. The transfers are trying to learn how to implement their games into the KU team concept

Here self kind of comments on it.

They'll benefit from Hunter being on the court. Bill Self offense works best when the 5 gets paint touches to make the defense contract and then have to recover to shooters.

Between Rylan Zeke and Aj we need double digit 3s most nights. It's just not going to work great with KJ in there unless those 3 are hitting shots from outside. But if they hit shots, we know what we're getting from HD DH and Kj.

The goal at KU is the same every year. This team should have a chance if they stay healthy and the newbies can hit shots. Duke and Houston are going to be a handful, getting a 1 seed will be important.

Might put Dotson above Sherron, cuz oh man that speed.

And maybe Garrett a little higher, cuz 1. he always played aggressive and 2. I think he deserves a bit of the same “if he had better players around him” benefit of the doubt we afford Dajuan.

Might move Russ up a tad too, for same aggressive/heart sort of reasons and/or maybe just my graduation year sentiments.

But for real your list is pretty good

Dotson above Sherron?

nevermind. i don't even want to know how you get to that conclusion.

and you can't move Garrett up without moving someone down. He's not better than anyone on that list.....at least not in a pg role.

I just pretend Tharpe doesn't exist.

Already said so.

I got to that conclusion cuz oh man that speed.

It’s very close tho. Sherron better J and prob better overall potential. But Devon’s stats underratedly similar, played more consistently and more consistently within his role and ability, and got robbed of a natty. So much of his legacy is held back cuz of that. And oh man that speed. Also he never showed up to campus 40 pounds overweight either…not that I’m bitter.

Garrett and Dajuan are pretty similar to me. Dajuan a more natural PG, but Garrett also had a kinda meh group of underclassman in supporting roles. Where Garrett might get the nod tho is I remember him more consistently playing harder. If a play broke down he didn’t hesitate to just go right at the rim…remember when we had a guard who would do that?

Sherron was a better threat from 3.
Dotson was fast AF but Sherron was no slouch in that department.

I’ll go with the 2 time All American and National Champion. I know, crazy right?

And you can’t move up RussRob-there isn’t any one he can jump on illys list.

Yes, that includes DH.

Sherron accomplished a lot more at KU. That's for sure. Putting dotson ahead of him would be a tough sell. Although dotson very wall may have been the better player/talent. Speed/quickness is an elite pg skill, and dot may be the best self has had. His resume just doesn't stack up against sherrons tho

It's an argument of who's more talented vs who did more. Dotson loses that argument 9/10 times
