I love Diablo iii bc it’s a easy game with good graphics and sound to play multiplayer with friends and no one else.

I’d love a bigger/expansive game than Diablo with a similar entry skill level. My dream would be Skyrim where you could play with one or two other peeps. And no randos.

You played Witcher 3? No co-op mode but a great, easy to play game.

Hogwarts Legacy starts pushing file downloads out this Saturday to pre-sales, with the game opening to play on 2/6 at 11pm CT. Purchasers of the standard edition can start playing 2/9 at 11pm CT. My kids and I are all looking forward to this one as it is finally a chance for them to wander around through the Harry Potter world. Interested to see how well they pull it off but initial previews are looking strong so far.

Got my 6yr son a ps5 for his birthday this week. 9yr old daughter will also use it (so will their mid 30s dad).

6yr old will want the usual sportd type NBA2k, Madden, Fifa games, + WWE game....he also likes fortnight and COD when he's played with his cousins

9yr old likes fortnight....but would be more into other games I think.

Thats said, what should I be getting for us?

Hogwarts Legacy might be something they like....but might be hard for the 6yr old.

Any suggestions?

If they like Harry Potter, go buy the Harry Potter Lego game.

My kids have had endless hours of fun playing it and it's easy for kids to play.

There are a ton of different Lego games out there (we've played Star Wars, Avengers, Incredibles, etc...) All are easily played by smaller kids. I'll poke around and see if there is anything else loaded on ours that my 9 year old uses. I forget things...

What games have they been enjoying so far?
Do you game on it and if so, what kind of games do you play?

I don't play online games as I don't want to listen to a bunch of 12 year olds try out all the swear words they know. I am more into games with good stories and lots of quests/activities/collectibles. If it has a 100% completion available then I want to achieve it. I still vote Red Dead Redemption II and Witcher 3 as two of my favorite games of all time. Horizon Zero Dawn was pretty awesome. The new one was good but too short. I have also played and liked all of the Assassin's Creed games. I tried Deathloop but thought it was clunky to maneuver and boring.

Started playing Hogwarts Legacy last night and it is beautiful so far. Still just getting started so I haven't really gotten to do much but it's pretty impressive if you're into the Harry Potter world. My 9 year old can start playing it today if she gets all her stuff done in enough time.

As for kids, I have heard the Spider Man Miles Morales game is really good and kid friendly. We haven't played it but will someday. We played the Rachet & Clank: Rift Apart and it was fun. Very kid friendly.

EDIT: one other thing... if you're an NBA 2K fan, you can usually find someone online who makes college rosters that you can load into the game and play as KU. The last NBA 2K game I had, I don't think I ever actually played it using any NBA teams. I just created a whole league of college teams and ran seasons that way. I hope they have an ncaa hoops game again some day.

I'm getting my PS5 Saturday.
I'll keep all my PS4 games.

I have Marvel's SpiderMan for PS4 ( from 2018 ) which is just super fun gameplay.
Very kid friendly - so the Miles Morales is just a build on that.

Thanks for the LEGO game advice. My kids have loved the batman one.

I haven't played a ton on it yet. Am going to get Howarts Legacy soon.

My kids have also liked WWE2k22, fortnite, and NBA2k23. All were either discounted or available for free from playstation premium subscription which is nice. There is also some game they play that is basically an adventure game where you have to solve puzzles or figure out strategy to advance through the levels. Pretty cool and laid back game. Not sure what it is called. Wouldn't be fun without the kids, but is cool to watch them use problem solving skills and their brains rather than button mash the WWE game.

I started the first God of War that was also free with the subscription. It's pretty cool. I will eventually play the new one, but will probably wait for a price drop.

Other than that PGA2k23 is pretty cool for a golf game.

Yeah, the PS Plus stuff has a core of free games available and new games available for free each month that you can download. PGA23 was one of them several months ago.

The kids game you mentioned may be the Astro's Playroom that comes with the PS5, which is fun. "Sackboy: A Big Adventure" is another fun puzzler game for PS5 from what I have read. It's a spinoff of the Little Big Planet series which were all a lot of fun. If any of your kids are big Disney fans, "Disney Dreamlight Valley" is good as well. My daughter has it on her switch and likes it. I imagine the PS5 version is even better.

Not Astros playroom, but that one is pretty sweet too. Forgot about it. My daughter likes that one because it teaches her how to use the controller better.

we got one when my wife had eye her surgeries a few years ago…she absolutely loves it (the newer zelda games are quite good)

we used to have a wii, and have regretted getting rid of it due to all the local/couch-co-op options it had, particularly with the sports games. the switch has similar options, so we can now play tennis, bowling, etc with up to four people locally (and obviously a bunch more online). if you or your kiddos like sports games, i’d say it’s worth it for sure

it also affords the options of many/most classic nintendo titles (mario, excitebike, mariocart, etc)

I don't have a Switch but it's certainly the console platform of choice for kids under 10.

On a semi-related note:
I would pay double, perhaps triple, to get Breath of the Wild on PS5.

On a more distant related note:
I am looking forward to Diablo 4 in a month and a half.

the wife is so stoked (it comes out right around her birthday)…she’s already warned me that she’ll be indisposed of for at least the first week after she gets her copy
