Re: Kids
Yeah, I had a funny feeling this morning, but sticking it out at work doing what I can. Took some anti-nausea/vomiting medicine as a precaution.
But I have a feeling I may be hurting tonight.

thanks for the correctionHouseDivided wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 8:36 amThat was B.F. Skinner, actually. It was a larger version of the one he used to train rats, only for human babies. He believed that a machine could do a better job of raising kids than humans. He actually put his own daughter in the prototype to demonstrate, but admitted failure after a short time. I’m sure Mrs. Skinner had a great deal to do with that conclusion.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 9:10 pm i think edison actually invented a “cage” for kids where you could control temperature and humidity to regulate sleep patterns (among other things)
coulda sworn it was edison...probably should have realized it wasn’t when the google machine failed to provide a link

Lots of similarities between Edison and Skinner. Both were probably high-functioning Autistic, and neither one had much in the way of social skills. Both were also undoubtedly geniuses who made a positive impact on the world, but also pissed off a lot of people along the way. Part of the fascinating thing that is human nature.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 1:33 pmthanks for the correctionHouseDivided wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 8:36 amThat was B.F. Skinner, actually. SNOPES says the Skinner box was merely a crib with temp & humidity control. He was living in Minnesota and babies were put in many many layers of cloths to keep warm. Then they’d get too hot, then sweaty, then chill. Tons of clothing to wash and very uncomfortable babies that couldn’t move. So the climate-controlled crib allowed for a comfortable baby in a diaper. That is pretty much how we raise babies now if you have AC and central heating.

years ago when i worked retail i met a guy that was looking for digital hygrometers and thermostats...he was being real evasive when i pressed him about what he was using them for. eventually i got him to spill the beans, and he even ended up coming back and showing me actual construction plans that he had dug up...much more involved and complex than a crib. it was much more like a terrarium, minus anything on the interior. i think he was using acrylic for the walls, but the original plans had glassHouseDivided wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2019 9:24 pmMeh. In a sammich deli for lunch when a family comes in with two little kids. From the moment they walk in the door, at least one of the kids is either screeching and/or crying. One rolled around on the floor wailing cuz dad wouldn’t let him have Cheetos or some shit.

My kid pulled that once. We went out to the parking lot and had a discussion and then went back into the mart. 20+ years later, it's still referred to as "The Discussion". Hopefully, you are only seeing a snapshot and they kids are not like that 24x7.

It’s not the kids’ fault. That’s 100% a parenting problem.ousdahl wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2019 3:10 pmWhat if it’s phrased such as, your kids are examples of why I never wanna have any of my own?TraditionKU wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2019 1:47 pm unless you’ve got kids, it’s never appropriate...or, at least that’s what i’m told
