I gave you the names and the timeline and important dates that will determine the future of the Empire.

Introductions will require you to make the effort to be present when opportunity walks in the door. A line is already forming to greet.

It's your move.
If I end up buying land to develop on the 160 or 285 corridors, will I still be considered part of the Empire?
You are an official member of the AV Club now, and you have a key to the Spud Lounge. Those benefits transfer to anywhere within the valley. We should find you a location closer to the clubhouse though, especially now that the police are watching you.

If you yell that in front of the cantina at 2:00 AM, don't come running towards the Spud Lounge afterwards.

Was Jaywalking the issue?

I had no idea that it was so much more of an offense than the guy pissing in the middle of the street.

Yes, you will.
Wife and I spent a few hours at Great Sand Dunes Recreation.

VERY ecclectic mix of folks.
Food is really good.

Hey Emperors!

Thinking about maybe trying to get back for a weekend before winter. Any of you guys gonna be down there?

We are, not sure when though.

We are looking for land around Crestone to build a home/join a cult.

October 9,10. There is a cook-off for the best home chefs in town hosted by the Spud Lounge.

We will probably come back at some point in Nov but no dates yet. We are doing acoustical testing for an experimental music event a year or two down the road. We will have some musicians playing inside Casa Covida to see what the acoustics are like inside an 3D printed adobe structure.

Some things:

- rye prevents erosion
- the empire is the largest high-elevation desert in North America
- the flavor we usually associate with rye is actually added caraway seeds
- folks still don’t know the difference between elevation and altitude
- rye also doesn’t need as much water compared to other crops

Sarah Jones is good people. She came to Solstice to speak and show a documentary once. Kelly Whitaker is an interesting guy and a great chef. He cooked dinner for us one night in an horno. The bread he cooks with the rye is really good.

There is a distillery in the SLV that makes vodka with potatoes. They built it in an abandoned school.

Solstice 5 is June 20-21, 2025.

We are getting the band back together.

Interesting article, and, I learned a new word: (BTW, the Empire sounds elitist.)

...Denver-based distillery The Family Jones — no relation to Jones Farms Organics — believes that the San Luis Valley’s climate “lends a unique terroir* to the whiskey,” said Lead Distiller Jamie Burns....

*Terroir (pronounced ter-wahr) is a French term that originally described the unique conditions of a specific region – the soil, climate, and topography – that give wine its distinctive character. However, it's not just about wine anymore. Terroir has become a buzzword in the global artisan food and beverage industry.

I see that word used most often with regards to wines. But it is true of the potatoes as well. I was gifted 50 pounds of fresh taters on my last trip out by the Guatemalan gangs who guard my piles of gold bitcoin, standing at the front door like sentries, with their tater hoes. Them taters make the best mashed taters ever. Must be the terroir, or maybe I was just a little high.

You're know where to go to fuck around and find out. June 20-21, 2025.
