You can definitely change. I was a broke-ass kid some years back. I changed my attitude, and just last week, deposited $80,000 into one of my checking accounts. Good things can happen if you keep yourself open and don't hold a victim mentality.

Its available balance S70. The title of the account is Share 70... interest earning credit union account. Avail balance is 90k. Not that any of this really matters and its all very odd...all of it. Posting it, responses to it...all of it is just....weird.

Not sure how many times someone has to say it. This isnt the free market problem. The free market doesnt account for unemployment benefits...particularly not UI + $300 weekly.
Shocking, just Shocking that you follow something on instagram called the anti capitalist. Im blown away by the surprise.

Is that ad hominem? Pretty sure it is. I thought the puppers.against.capitalism post from the other day would get it, but go figure we made it this far. Either way, pretty sure phd runs that insta page.
But damn TDub, you’re so bougey! I dunno why you too are vilifying those who would rather go find work that pays better than $2.13 an hour, but here we are. Why not vilify the restaurant owners who are whining about their own lack of hard work or innovation?
But yeah, like you said, the free market doesn’t account for unemployment benefits. Foe that matter, the free market doesn’t account for minimum wage, either. Cuz if it was still up to the free market, they wouldn’t even be paying that $2.13 an hour! You’re on yer own bub, if you wanna make a living then go get tipped.
This is where I’m tempted to once again ask something like, if a business model depends on paying employees a wage so low it can’t even come close to pandemic relief insurance, is that even a sustainable business model in the first place?
Or maybe even ask something like, if the business owners didn’t wanna have their wages have to compete with unemployment insurance, then why’d they lay the employees off?
But instead I’ll just ask, how much in Covid relief handouts do you think those restaurant owners were happy to accept?

Exactly. When being unemployed is as or more profitable than working, it is because government is making it that way by handing out fake money. We'll all be paying for it in inflation and higher taxes real soon.
It reminds me of a professor I had in grad school who told the story of teaching in Russia for a semester. His driver was taking him across town when he saw a large group of men hanging out in a city park. Some were kicking around a soccer ball, some were taking a nap under the trees, and some were just standing around smoking. He asked the driver what was going on.
"It's just the city workers," he replied. "They all have guaranteed jobs. They get paid the same if they work all day or if they lounge around in the park."
That is where we are headed. Imitating a system that has failed across history and across cultures. Pure stupidity.

Anecdotes about anecdotes, nice.
We should take economic advice from Russian cab drivers more often!
But “being unemployed is as or more profitable than working” is, once again, quite the indictment of the free market.
