I suppose Wilson is a testament to the fact rebounding is less about athleticism or lotto talent, and more about positioning and - perhaps most of all - that "want to"

I think you'd have Josh Jackson
I begin to see what you mean, then I remember you like hot fake beer, and I just can't.

ha, yea.
tho Barkley was top 5 draft talent, and an elite athlete, despite the roundness.
there's some famous HS scouting report by an NBA scout who happened to see him: "a fat guy who can play like the wind"

Wilson is such an odd player. He doesn't seem athletic enough to play as well as he does. Then he fights all game and is still playing strong in the 4th quarter and putting buckets on good defenses, night after night. A league full of elite coaches and rosters have been able to scheme Gradey out of some games but not Wilson.
Impressive his drive to improve. He has added a lot of moves and shots to his arsenal. He has put in the work. Hats off to him for seizing the opportunity.
Can you imagine if you could transplant Wilson's approach/confidence/mentality into one of our better athletes? Like put his brain in Wiggins or Henry or McLemore...or hell anyone who can dunk?!
Heck, give him KJ's hops and see what happens.

Jalen Wilson's 18.7 FGA per 40 is the highest ever under Bill Self and 8th all time since 1985.
1. Terry Brown 1990
2. Drew Gooden 2002
3. Terry Brown 1991
4. Danny Manning 1988
5. Paul Pierce 1998
6. Luke Axtell 2000
7. Raef LaFrentz 1998.

He warrants that many attempts per game.

Terry Browns 3FG percentage was basically as good as Jalens overall FG%.
Luke Axtell shot Rois team to awfulness and an 8 seed.
We know about the other guys.
Jalens FG percentage has dipped below 42.

Neither can get their own shots consistently. Jalen can. Which is why he ends up taking more shots than you'd like.

I think Dick can do so more than you’re implying.
And lost possessions with Jalen attempting low percentage shots mean KJ may not get the ball in his spots.

I think of Luke as the original transfer player, lol

Axtell was the original "you assume it's going in when he shoots a 3" guy like Dick is now.

I think I am slowly moving to team pdub here. Jalen should be leading the team in FGA... But the last few games he's taken several shots that are basically just turnovers they're so bad. If they were late in the shot clock that'd be one thing, but they're not.
It's a little bit of Sherron post Willie Warren game.

I still want him taking tough shots—deep threes and attacking the basket. But when it’s early in the shot clock, you don’t need to force the issue. Hell, the ball may get back to you in a position where you have a much better shot.
