I don't think he's B12POY quality next year but I think, at worst, he's on the 2nd team.

The thing that makes me skeptical of KJ's ability to develop a jumper is his Mom.

As in, if he could do it, I would think he would have already, being the son of a high-level basketball player.

Zach isn't strong enough to play defense the way Self wants his bigs to play it. He is just too weak in his core and legs to keep from getting pushed around.

man, lotta movement.

It would be fan-fucking-tastic if KJ suddenly showed up with a J, but I'm not banking on it.

He'll still be used the way he was used this year - get him angles for a quick bounce downhill, get him on the receiving end of the lob, maybe get him some elbow jumpers/floaters, set screens, operate in the middle of zones, stuff like that.

Or, not?

I think that stuff's more likely than expecting KJ to camp out on the perimeter.

As for Bobby, I was hoping for more, especially with he praise coach gave him initially. Yea he played hard, but just not that skilled, and didn't produce, even in just a backup role (albeit a backup role with a longer leash than normal)

Yesufu - Yesufu! - was more productive than Bobby. Think about that. And I'd say Yes had more of the short leash treatment, comparatively speaking, but I actually think Bobby and Yes played about the same minutes this year.

As for Zach, Cam going first made me wonder if we'd keep Zach around instead, but yea, he just never seemed to fit. And I think Ernest/Zuby/KJ is plenty enough options at the 5. Heck, we won a natty with the 5 being little more than spazoid Dave and make-a-wish Mitch.

So I have this straight.... with Cam, Bobby and Zach transferring plus the Scholls ding next year, we now officially have 2 open spots, correct?

"Yesufu - Yesufu! - was more productive than Bobby. Think about that. And I'd say Yes had more of the short leash treatment, comparatively speaking, but I actually think Bobby and Yes played about the same minutes this year."

I suppose since he shot a lot more he got more production but this tidbit is worth repeating:

"Yesufu's 28.6% 3FG is 125th for Bill Self players 7 MIN+. And the 4th worst under Bill Self for players who attempted over 50 3's in a season ( worst Jeff Hawkins in 2004 followed by Jalen Wilson last season and Charlie Moore 2019 )."

So yes, Yesufu produced more points ( that's the only thing he produced more of ) in more minutes per game than Bobby at a significantly lower percentage.

Do we still expect a transfer for Yes? or Cuffe? But considering 3 others have entered the portal already, it might make them a little less likely (we hardly know what we have with Cuffe)

The other thing that might move is some freshy decommitting. I'm not saying it'll happen or it's likely or I even want it to. I'm just saying there's precedent.

And, when building a roster, you gotta figure you'd rather give a scholly to a younger dood with all his eligibility in front of him who can develop in the system, than some upper class guy who's been around but still hasn't really developed and isn't expected to be more than a practice player)

I'm counting 1.

Harris
Yes
Cuffe
Rice
KJ
Udeh
Zuby
Plus four freshmen.
That's 11. We get 12.

Guaranteed if we play him later he will somehow hit 6 3s against us

yea.

Bear in mind tho, Bobby made three 3-pointers, ever. In 2 years of D1 ball. In a total of almost 500 minutes of playing time. Three. That even makes Dajuan blush!

I might rather have a guy shoot only 10 3's and make 3 of them then a guy shoot 80 3's and make 20.
There comes a point where, no, we can find a better shot thank you.

4th worst 3 point percentage ever under Bill Self for someone who shot a fair amount of them.
That's pretty awful.

He might end up being like a 25yo senior

A somewhat reliable jumpshot would have hid a bunch of Pettiford's flaws.

#1 being the lack of a somewhat reliable jump shot.

I'm certainly at the point where we'll want our freshman guards playing over Yesufu next season.
He's similar to Clemence in the way that you have an impression of what he's supposed to be good at but actually is quite awful at.

that begs the question of, if we want our freshman guards playing over Yesufu next season, then why keep Yesufu around?

Again, a somewhat reliable jump shot
