Of course my employer picked today to launch this year's ALICE training video. Super fun.

"He is a liar and a criminal and openly corrupt and none of it mattered. Everything we've always been told voters reject, they ignored, even embraced. Voters wanted Trump, in all his malice."
"He ran on a platform of punishing his enemies, and his voters' imagined enemies, and they turned out in droves to give him that power even at the expense of making their own lives worse. One cannot say broadly of Americans We're better than this, because we're not. A plurality of Americans hate women or people of color or immigrants or trans people enough for this to be the result...But for the moment there's little to do, and no illusions left, just the struggle of figuring out how to live in this country, with these people."

if that hotel room goes from $209.00/night, back down to $149.00 per night. it will have all been worth it.
with 5% of Republicans voting for Harris, it's time to admit that (1) the "never Trump Republicans" were never a thing, and (2) this whole "appeal to republicans instead of her own base" was an all-time dumb strategy.

Is it all over? Did I miss it?
I slept in this AM, my daughter texted me in a panic after midnight last night. Where is a gay woman going to be able to live without a target on her back? She may not be able to work at a State university any more. She has me, I can help her stay afloat for the next four years.
I have been out shoveling snow and Annie has been working the tax auctions. We got everything we went after with regards to buying liens. Pay your property taxes...or don't, the certificates re paying out 12-15%. There was a large number of aggressive lien purchasers this year. Those auctions wrapped up today.
So I think the above quoted statement pretty much sums it up. The rubes wanted retribution and thought they were getting an improvement in the economy was a bonus. You will get the cruelty and racism you were lusting for. But the money will be trickling up, just like it always does with an R president.
My plumber/HVAC dude was just here. He's a mormon with many children including a special needs daughter. He asked me what I thought about the election, I told him. He was a single issue voter, he voted for trumpty because trump will get rid of abortion and birth control and those are moral issues for him. He said he thought the economy would be better under trumpty. I told him straight up, mine will be, but not yours. I gave him a coulpe of examples why. This seemed sobering. He said maybe he didn't really look into that was much as he should have.
I have been texting with DC this morning and getting his insights into investment future. He said he was thinking about getting out of the stock market and buying gold bricks. I am not sure if he was putting me on, but I have a well inside my walled compound here in the Empire and I can buy a pirate's chest and drop my booty down the hole if it comes to that. I have another big stock buyout chunk coming this year so I need place to park it. In couple of weeks we will check in with the advisors who take care oof your trust. They have already started working on this I suspect.
Congrats to the rubes, you won fair and square it seems. Maybe now you can quit pretending you didn't lose last time. But that seems to be an particle of faith, much like trumpty is a smart business guy, so prolly not.
And thanks for the extension of my tax cuts, I will put them to good use. It will be worth every penny you pay for them.
I am looking forward to watching Eloon take the economy and government apart and play with it in the way only a childish sociopath with no moral compass and unlimited funds can.
You rubes asked for it, now you get it!
Keep your resume up to date, I predict there will be a lot of churn in the near future. And of course outsourcing of jobs to Mexico. But there will still be good ag jobs and hurricane clean up jobs right here in the good ole US of A. And I still have my goathead problem, you can pull those in my backyard for minimum wage and sleep in Joaquin's shed. He is putting garage doors on it this summer, it will cut down on the dust.

imzcount: Why do politicians think "Hope" is a plan?
I mean, it worked well for Obama, didn't it?
dems like hope, change, progress, something new.
It's the "everything is fine the way it is" campaign theme that made dems loose

This is going to be four years or every man for themselves. That is how they voted, that is what they will get. There will be little empathy, as my Mormon plumber said today, "In our religion, we say we get what we deserve based on our actions." He thought about that for a bit and said if there are economic repercussions for his vote, that would be the deal.
Deal!

"also things like immigration, weed, voter rights, Citizens United, any number of anything for which an actual vision was an opportunity to have popular appeal more so than some status quo."
Read up.
For way too long of a period of time people went to her web site to read up. There was nothing of any substance on there. Nor was there anything of substance coming out of her mouth.
Heck, approximately 40 days after she announced she was running you posted this....

OK i'm waiting for a clear laid out policy plan - in depth platform with specifics on issues - and still nothing from Harris and Walz.
They are going to do this eventually right?
Otherwise they will not get my vote -- the anything but Trump won't cut it.

Falling prices like that are a sign of a depression. The price is dictated by scarcity today. Demand is high enough to support that price. Crunchwraps too

Japhy, lots of good stuff in your post. Per usual.
I chose to cut this single line out as I feel the accumulation of wealth to the top has accelerated well past the point of a trickle. I think we are well past the mean on the bell curve regarding wealth consolidation. With the unknown acceleration of AI into the workforce (and inevitable replacement of human tasks with machines more and more), the uncertainty here causes me actual anxiety when I elect to ponder the possibilities. They don’t seem favorable to most people, regardless of who is in charge of things.

it "should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them."
"First, it was the white working class, and now it is Latino and Black workers as well," Sanders continued in his statement. "While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they're right."
Nearly a month ago, Kamala Harris appeared on ABC's The View in what was expected to be a friendly interview aimed at pitching herself to Americans who wanted to know more about her.
But the sit-down was quickly overshadowed by her response to a question on what she would have done differently from incumbent president, Joe Biden: "Not a thing comes to mind."
