I have been to concerts and festivals all around the country.

I am staying, as a matter of fact, that The Gorge is THE most amazing venue I have ever seen live music at.

What do you need explained to you? Other than he is one of the best and most talented musicians in your lifetime.

"The blues had a baby and they named it Rock and Roll."

Muddy Waters, aka, McKinley Morganfield

In my amateur opinion, of all the various guitarists of the '60s, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Hendrix, Jimmy Page, etc., etc., who interpreted American blues and brought it to the market and attention of a much, much wider audience as R&R, Clapton did so in a more melodious and accessible form than many of the others. Whether it was as a member of the Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek & the Dominos, or as himself, Clapton's playing stood the test of time and was generally speaking, imo, more commercially accessible for a larger segment of the market.

What's interesting is, for years he lacked confidence, and didn't considered himself worthy of being a vocalist. Which is somewhat understandable after cutting his teeth with such excellent vocalists as Jack Bruce the bass player in Cream, and Steve Winwood the keyboard player and vocalist in Blind Faith.

Amazing that he was able to get the monkey of a heroin addiction off his back and persevere for so long.

Gutter explained it pretty well.

Some of his latter stuff ( i'm looking at you 'Change The World' ) is not good.

Thanks.

I was hanging with two guitarist friends who were raving about Clapton. I asked them to explain to me, and after the incredulous look, then an extended pause, one of them offered a, “he was the first dood to try recording a guitar with the mic across the room, rather than in front of the amp!”

Ok. Great! But doesn’t that make him more innovative as a sound engineer than a musician?

I asked for some song recs, maybe even deep cuts, but got the usual half dozen or so:

Sunshine of your love
White room (anything else from cream?)

Layla
Cocaine
Wonderful tonight
Tears in heaven
Change the world
That I shot the Sheriff cover
That Crossroads cover

Anything else?

dude, you're an adult with internet access and, therefore, access to his entire catalogue in seconds. Go look, listen, and make you're own decisions. good grief.

This video is what should convince people Donald Jr. uses cocaine. Notice Clapton's mouth around the 2 minute mark and then look at Jr.s' when he goes on his rants at home. Basically identical.

I suggest you do a simple YouTube search of Eric Clapton and poke around.

Hey, to each their own and if you don't care for him - great.
I go through phases in regards to him.
I will say, when I have seen him live (twice) it was great to see the people who appreciated him but no, the man is NOT God.
