Jason Aldean's 'Small Town' is part of a long legacy with a very dark side

wonder what small town he's talking about?

Macon, where he grew up? 160k people. Not at all a small town, not even close. Big city.

Nashville? Where he loved after he made it.. 630k people. Not a small town. Huge city.

or where he lives in a beach house in Florida now? The one with the strict HOA and gates that keep common folk out?

Seems to me he knows not of what he sings.

I’m not a country music fan and although I can name a few songs, a few singers/bands, I don’t think I’ll get a passing grade in the match the song to artist quiz. With that preface, I heard about this song and video on some news show. I’m not going to “do my own research” because I have better use for 3+ minutes of my time. From the 15 seconds I saw it appears that he’s advocating shooting people for exercising their free speech rights? True?

its not a good song tho, by any stretch. Just bad music altogether.

He doesn’t say shoot ( kinda implies though) but now there are a lot of “folks” posting pictures or videos of their guns and saying that they stand with Aldean.

I switch between radio stations on drives and it’s two sports stations, an 80s/90s station and two country stations.

There are a number of shitty country songs that have me immediately switch stations. Add this one to the top of the list.

Yikes. There's a nest somewhere near my house.
Better than finding a bald headed gutter on your screened in deck.

Here are the lyrics and I will respond at the end.

Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk
Carjack an old lady at a red light
Pull a gun on the owner of a liquor store
Ya think it's cool, well, act a fool if ya like
Cuss out a cop, spit in his face
Stomp on the flag and light it up
Yeah, ya think you're tough
Well, try that in a small town
See how far ya make it down the road
Around here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a small town
Got a gun that my granddad gave me
They say one day they're gonna round up
Well, that shit might fly in the city, good luck
Try that in a small town
See how far ya make it down the road
Around here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a small town
Full of good ol' boys, raised up right
If you're looking for a fight
Try that in a small town
Try that in a small town
Try that in a small town
See how far ya make it down the road
Around here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a small town
Try that in a small town
Ooh-ooh
Try that in a small town

*******

He and 98% of his fans would shit in their pants if let's say 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, 50,000, 100,000, 250,000 people of all races and religions marched in to a small town to "try that".
So why instigate/incite it?
I fully admit a small part of me would like to see it happen.

I'm wondering how many Blacks, Gays, Asians, Jews, Mexicans, Muslims, etc., etc., etc., have "tried" to do nothing more than mind their own business and exist in a "small town" and suffered unfortunate consequences simply because they are/were different than the "norm".

The Country Music Television network pulled the video on Monday amid criticism that it promoted vigilante justice and violence against American police brutality protesters and echoed tropes of racialized violence, including lynching.

After decades of intensive farming, plowing and chemical applications, the land surrounding Knepp Castle, about an hour outside of London, was depleted. Then, the owners decided on a new approach: rewilding, allowing the land to return to its natural state. Correspondent David Pogue pays a visit to see how, in a short span of time, this land has now become one of the most important biodiversity hotspots in the United Kingdom, home to an incredible variety of plants, animals, birds, and insects, many of them endangered.

there’s quite a big rewilding effort across various parts of Europe

it’s awesome to see, imo

Man.

So know that guided fishing trip y’all won in the fundraiser auction?

The one with “please enjoy this trip by August 31” right there in the billing this year?

The dood has already rescheduled 3 times, with the latest being a 2am text message asking if we could just push it back to late September.

The irony is, the dood who won it is a retiree who led off with, “I’m a retiree so I can be flexible about this trip! Since you’re the poor sap who still works full time and donated this shit out of the kindness of yer heart, just lemme know when works best for you!!!”
