Maybe. But I am also being realistic.

At this point thinking KU is getting an invite to the Big10 any time soon is unrealistic imo. It could be a decade. It could be never.

It is in our best interests to help make the Big12 continue to be the 5th best conference. Which we are doing. By attracting new members. By trying to get some huge improvements to our football stadium approved/completed. By improving our on field performance of the football team.

i disagree. on field performance tells me we are the best basketball conf. that is not going to change because of the subtractions and additions.

on field performance tells me we are either the 2nd, 3rd of 4th best football conference depending on the year. that is not going to change because of the subtractions and the additions.

it's likely the on field performance gets a little boost due to the subtractions and additions.

Performance wise on the field you are absolutely right.

But this isn't about on field performance nearly as much as it is about $$$$.

Speaking of on court performance...

Basketball can easily be made more lucrative and Kansas has a ton more high value media appearances over six months that 99% of the Non-Alabama Power somethings of football. But when unlimited money gets pulled out to hype favored few conferences in the farce that is non-Alabama football, I expect no matter what KU would be left out. It really is about finding reasons to exclude programs. We need to better focus ourselves on making college BB a better financial deal. Part of that might be to understand that ESPN invested a lot of money on the NBA that is a direct season long competitor.

Shrinking D-1 in basketball seems like a must. Not to spill over from other board, but the new transfer rules will ensure that. Shrink D-1 basketball and the TV deals look better for the KU's.

From there, why would the 4 power conferences need the NCAA to make a national basketball tournament, i.e. filter the money through the NCAA?

This may have been lost in all of my posts, but maybe the biggest reason we need to be included in a 4 super conference scenario is our hoops program, of course.

it’s not lost on anyone paying attention, with any eye to the long-term “success” of KU

Maybe. But college basketball is significantly less popular, and generates less money, than college football. By a relatively wide margin outside of March Madness.

Parts of this make good sense to me. As does the desire to be part of the BIG.

What I don't get is why so many seem to give ESPN a pass for their covert manipulation of the structure of the league(s). With the $$$ that seems to be source of focus.

If we're content to say it's "about the $$$", but interested third parties can toss in huge $$$ to further their interests, then maybe any newly contrived entity should also include provisos that the member schools will bargain w/ those third parties collectively. To avoid or mitigate such manipulation.

Just my two cents
Please, I implore you to be reasonable...

Big 12 expansion officially happens in 2023. Now, what to do with football schedules?

I hope there is someone here that can give an update on the status of removing Houston from the schedule this year. I am guessing it might not happen since season tickets were already sold....

Probably too late to change. Houston May give KU some money as contract was broken.

The last bit of buzz I heard was it may have depended on if Houston could get into the Big 12 in 2023. But before that was finalized, kickoff times and things were announced so what once looked like a sure thing is now looking like it's too late.

I figured it was probably too late. I hope that Lance finds a way to beat them.

Interesting hire for tge new commissioner of the Big 12.
If that's who eventually ends up being the next commissioner, that is a hire 100% focused on NIL.

I'll be completely honest: I genuinely have ZERO idea whether or not this is a good hire. Hiring a guy like this is certainly motived by the dawn of the NIL Era but is he the right guy? I have no clue.
