Re: Conference Realignment..?

Something to watch...
Far from things settling down. The rumors that were swirling a few months ago involved USC and another PAC school needing to join the B1G for the B1G to be interested enough to add Kansas and another midwest.
No doubt there is a lot of movement left to go. Word is the B1G is about to get $1 billion for their next tv rights contact and this is USC and UCLA staking their claim to a piece of that pie. This is headed toward going from a Power 5 to a Power 2 with the B1G and the SEC. Then I would guess we'll start to see the breakaway from the NCAA.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 12:59 pmFar from things settling down. I would guess that UCLA will have a battle with the regents, but I have no clue on that, but regardless, were these two schools to move, it would be a big development for all of B1G, PAC and Big 12.
I don't hate that idea. I'll be honest, the only one thing I'm rooting for in the endgame of all this conference shuffling is the death of the NCAA. So the more chaos the better.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 1:19 pm There’s going to be 2 mega conferences. An SEC and a Big 10. And they’ll probably change names/break away from NCAA. Probably something like 36 teams in each.
I want the death of the NCAA as well, but should it get to where we are in a 72 team Power College Sports Alliance with Big 10 and SEC brass making the rules, it's not like I have a ton of faith that they won't come up with their own fucked up, stupid rules.UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 1:34 pmI don't hate that idea. Yeah, that's all. I'm not too stressed about where KU stands in the hierarchy of top 64 or 72 teams worthy of a spot in the group that breaks away.KUTradition wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 1:47 pm that’s all?
for me, KU ending up with the “haves” rather than the “have nots” is more important
No matter who makes the rules, they'll always be completely arbitrary and stupid. It's the NCAA's inconsistency in enforcement and the fact that they think they have no responsibility in pushing college sports to this point by not reigning everything in sooner that makes me excited to see it go away.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 1:47 pmI want the death of the NCAA as well, but should it get to where we are in a 72 team Power College Sports Alliance with Big 10 and SEC brass making the rules, it's not like I have a ton of faith that they won't come up with their own fucked up, stupid rules.UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 1:34 pmI don't hate that idea. Very much agree that this is all very binary for KU (and the Big 12, generally).UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 2:01 pmYeah, that's all. The timing of this makes it interesting because it sounds like they are targeting the new commissioner's start date as August 1. And nobody trusts Bob Bowlsby, let alone a lame duck Bob Bowlsby. Curious to see if the new guy takes the reigns earlier. Plus we're going to find out if he's cut out for this real fast.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 2:49 pmVery much agree that this is all very binary for KU (and the Big 12, generally).UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 2:01 pmYeah, that's all. The new Big 12 commish should go for a Pac 12 killshot, like grabbing the two Arizona schools to-fucking-morrow. That puts the league at 16, and us (and KSU and ISU, etc.) on the good side of the cut line.
The Los Angeles schools leaving the Pac 12 means the lesser Pac 12 schools (Utah, Washington State) are now at the most acute risk of getting left out. Make it so, Big 12.
Fine. I'm good with...Colorado and Utah, too. Something like that.UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 2:57 pmThe timing of this makes it interesting because it sounds like they are targeting the new commissioner's start date as August 1. The Arizona schools are a great place to start but you still have get 2 more schools on the line or else you're back down to 14 when OU and Texas actually leave.
I'm not sure Arizona and ASU save the Big 12. Still a conference full of trash.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 2:49 pmVery much agree that this is all very binary for KU (and the Big 12, generally).UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 2:01 pmYeah, that's all. I actually disagree. A Pac 12 without the Los Angeles schools is significantly weaker than what the Big 12 would be, even subbing the Arizona schools for UT and OU.Cascadia wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 2:59 pmI'm not sure Arizona and ASU save the Big 12. Would be better for KU to join the Pac 12. Take one of Houston, Texas Tech or BYU() with us.
