I just put it down to being from South Carolina. They've routinely sent awful people to the Congress and the most noisy ones at that.

Actually, speaking of the treatment of minority Republicans.

South Carolina has a (presumably) gay man and a black man as its two Senators and it's most recent former governor is Indian-American.

And they're universally reviled, mocked, called names, etc. on this board.

BTW, if you haven't yet figured out that Pelosi's stunt was designed expressly to sideline Warren and especially Sanders in the weeks leading up to Iowa and New Hampshire, then you haven't been paying attention.

Nancy's all-in for Biden.

Grimace has spun this out as far as she can, and it has amounted to zilch. Her only hope of saving face is to control the nomination process. The good news is that any choice she makes will be a losing choice.

Boy howdy, you guys sure had Pelosi figured out! Her delay "has amounted to zilch".

amirite?

BTW, is this what Trump was referring to when he said that Ambassador Yavanovitch was "...going to go through some things”?:

Cilliza vs. Swalwell

Reminds me of Kissinger's comment about Iran and Iraq. But much, much dumber.

huh

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/20 ... ilty-plea/

President Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn late Tuesday asked a court to let him withdraw his guilty plea for lying to the FBI in the Russia probe.

Flynn’s legal team filed a motion with the U.S. District Court in Washington less than two weeks before he was scheduled to be sentenced.

I'm glad you brought this up, DC.

Not to ever consider Bill Maher an expert on anything other than Bill Maher, but he was spot on recently when I heard him sum up today's political climate: Most people don't care.

The people on this board are passionate and know a thing or two about today's hot topics. But the majority of the voting electorate really doesn't care. Not that they're dumb - they have bigger fish to fry. Food on the table, good schools, steady job, family. Stuff that's really important.

But here's the thing: they elect people to care about these things for them. The people they elect are supposed to exercise their rights and obligations as representatives of their constituents.

I promise I understand you can find self-interest, and not representation, dominating the actions of elected officials of every stripe. But, in this particular example, we're pretty damned close to the Senate (by action of its GOP majority) simply abdicating its duties to represent the people in accordance with the Constitution.

That is not to say that the Senate has a duty to remove (although I do not pretend that's not how I'd prefer my Senators to vote). It is to say, however, that the Senate has a duty not to conduct a complete fucking sham of a trial, intended to bury (rather than impartially explore and evaluate) grave (and power-concentrating) actions by the Executive.
